Job Purpose:

We are growing our Corporate Affairs team and are now looking for a talented External Communications Manager to join us. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a range of external communications activities at one of the most fun and dynamic companies at the heart of the UK’s digital economy. If you join us as an External Communications Manager you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of announcements, product launches and campaigns across numerous areas of Virgin Media O2.

The role will see you join an experienced and agile team providing lots of opportunities to learn and develop, while helping to deliver external communications with the “wow” factor.

Ultimately, you will be responsible for:

• Creating and delivering integrated and effective communications activity with a primary focus on driving positive media coverage
• Managing specific communications projects from start to finish
• Drafting material including press releases, briefing notes, quotes/statements and blogs
• Following and analysing the news agenda, taking advantage of opportunities to generate good PR
• Building and maintaining relationships with key journalists
• Building productive relationships with teams across Virgin Media O2 to ensure the right stories are being told at the right time and to the right audiences

Must Haves…

For this role you’ll need to have a strong delivery focus, with an exceptional eye for creativity and the ability to prioritise. If you join us as an External Communications Manager we will need you to have:

• Strong media relations/PR experience, from either an agency or in-house background – tech, media and telecoms experience is not essential but an interest in these sectors is desirable
• The ability to think strategically and creatively to produce stand-out PR campaigns and announcements
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience dealing directly with the press (including national press/trade press /broadcasters)
• A proactive and positive attitude and the ability to adapt to tight deadlines and evolving plans
• Excellent interpersonal skills to forge effective relationships with journalists and key stakeholders across the business at all levels
• An ability to help successfully manage agency resource to achieve good outcomes
