Job Summary:
Reporting to the Manager, Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI-FL) Communications, the Walt Disney Imagineering Communications Manager proactively manages communication opportunities and needs for primarily Florida-based project work. This role supports the development and execution of strategies and plans that build and drive reputation and support business objectives. The person in this position partners heavily with communications professionals within the company to integrate opportunities into various plans while also managing incoming requests. As a key part of the project team, the Communications Manager also manages media production, asset creation and event support, in addition to prep and staffing needs. Developing messaging, identifying potential risks and mitigation plans are also part of this role’s responsibilities, and on all projects, the Communications Manager works closely with executives on a variety of reviews and approvals.
Responsibilities:
Every day as an External Communications Manager is different, but in any given day YOU might:
- Serve as primary contact with Walt Disney World (WDW) and Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) partners for assigned capital projects
- Responsible for evaluating feasibility and appropriateness of projects and provide editorial direction with input from WDI executives as needed
- Develop story ideas and write for multiple communication avenues including project communication plans, fact sheets, web content, video news releases and podcasts
- On-site support, coordination and oversight during filming/photography
- Serve as an advocate for WDI’s position and surface potential conflicts with WDI Communications leadership and management early in the process
- Interface with project executives and WDI legal department to ensure all WDI approvals are obtained prior to publishing/posting/releasing content
- Partner with Marketing Strategy and Public Relations to identify new media opportunities to showcase Imagineers and the work they do
- Manage high visibility media projects with key partners to promote Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products (DPEP) strategies, including press events, site tours, FAMs, blog events and community/industry events
- Develop new media content showcasing WDI and DPEP strategies; leverage social media content creators whenever appropriate
- Strengthen relations with third party media and industry partners
- Leverage media opportunities across functions and businesses to bolster reputation for The Walt Disney Company (TWDC)/DPEP/WDI
- Manage speaking engagements and public appearances for Imagineers (presentations, speeches, meet & greets, book/DVD/art signings, etc.)
- Direct and manage photography, video, collateral and related requests from various WDW partners, communications departments to be used for internal and external initiatives
- Support ongoing WDI communications as needed
Basic Qualifications:

- 2-5 years of communications or public affairs experience working with global brands
- Strong project management skills
- Excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills
- Solid business acumen
- Demonstrated creative thinking and the ability to take initiative with projects and anticipate issues of concern
- Ability to work independently, to take initiative, and to function effectively in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
It would be great if YOU also had:
- Technical acumen, and an interest in/understanding of tech and innovation
- Understanding of graphic design and video editing programs
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience

This role is considered hybrid, which means the employee will work a portion of their time on-site from a Company designated location and the remainder of their time remotely.
