Experienced Mechanic – Ottawa, IL
This is a full-time, hourly level position.
Position Summary:
- ADM is seeking an experienced mechanic at our American River Transportation Company (ARTCo) fleeting location in Ottawa, IL.
Job Responsibilities:
- Complete tasks with minimal supervision, and act as lead on tasks as needed
- Troubleshoot vessel machinery with minimal assistance
- Maintain supply inventory
- Fill in as mechanic technician as needed
- Obtain outside contractors as needed
- Notify immediate supervisor of non-operable, inadequate, or unsafe equipment or working conditions
- Complete all required trainings
- Report all injuries, illnesses, and near misses in a timely manner
- Additional duties and responsibilities as required or requested
Job Requirements:
- Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, piping, electrical devices, and other vessel machinery.
- Perform repairs and service a wide variety of equipment with minimal supervision including: changing batteries/gauges/motors/pumps and performing diesel engine work (turbos, exhaust manifolds, water pumps, etc.)
- Ability to follow direction and execute tasks under the supervision of the port engineer
- Ability to complete engine overhauls, engine swings, and gearbox swings with minimal supervision
- Ability to align, straighten, and maintain steering systems
- Ability to give accurate repair scopes and timelines
- Reading and writing skills sufficient to comprehend/complete a variety of documents
- Reliable transportation to and from work and to travel between work sites as needed/requested
- Ability to work a flexible schedule; must allow for changes in assignments, and priorities depending upon identified needs of the operations
- Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team
- Must be able to work in all types of climates

- Must have a demonstrated history of safe work behavior and a sincere desire to follow and improve upon safety policies and procedures
- Ability to work extended hours, evenings, weekends, Holidays and be on-call as requested.
Physical Requirements:
- Must pass a pre-employment physical, drug screening and Company human performance exam (physical ability test)
- Standing for prolonged periods of time
- Frequent heavy lifting
- Prolonged periods of kneeling, bending and climbing stairs/ladders
- Ability to work near or on large bodies of water, at various heights and in confined spaces
