Job Description

 

The EV Design Engineer will be responsible for understanding the EV Equipment, networks commercially available on the market and understanding how to apply these systems and Electrical and Civil design requirements to Client’s individual needs by selecting the correct hardware and software combinations for a complete solution. The individual will be able to understand Construction (Civil foundations & ADA requirements, Trenching, Electrical Design & Installation, utility sizing, coordination, and rate structures, Solar and battery storage systems.) The skills above will be utilized to help the operations and sales departments in project development and implementation of EV and electrical Infrastructure Systems through design and cost analysis and constructability and servicing of the systems.

This position is responsible for guiding team members and clients to proper solutions and set a culture that ensures performance-oriented results aligned with ABM’s high standards of customer service. Essential to success of the position is the leadership and support of key strategic objectives of both the business unit and ABM. Position will require a high sensitivity to industry and market trends that will drive the need for business change and innovation.

Essential Duties List

  • Maintain an EV industry Knowledge of current Hardware, Software, platforms, and industry Trends
  • Responds in a professional, polite, and helpful manner when dealing with other staff and customers while providing proactive communications with internal and external customers.
  • Responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing engineering activities including, but not limited to, studies, designing, budgeting, implementing and managing projects.
  • Provide direction and coordination of civil and electrical engineering for projects and products.
  • Apply design knowledge in medium and low voltage power distribution, grounding, lighting, motor control, variable frequency drive, EV Charging, Solar and Battery storage, and misc. equipment specification and selection.
  • Provide input to the initial project schedule and support the regular maintenance of project schedules.
  • Support customer satisfaction initiatives and process.
  • Ensure that project execution is performed to expectations or better for high quality, integrity and safety.
  • Focus efforts on growth and expansion of regional large projects through interaction with ABM divisions.
  • Provide technical sales support with regards to EV Hardware and software solutions and industry trends.
  • Ensure compliance to all NEC, OSHA, State Department and Labor Department policies, codes and guidelines.
  • Helping to Estimating and developing proposals for new projects and ensuring that estimates are accurate.
  • Responsible for reviews of estimates and proposals with appropriate leadership teams
  • Responsible for helping to deliver and advise clients during the proposal development and delivery with clients and drive clients in closing business with ABM.
  • Reviewing and analyzing mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Helping to obtain equipment, subcontractor, and material pricing with an accurate labor estimate for projects.
  • Responsible for developing and managing proposal scope development and bid coordination.
  • Attend project site visits and pre-bid meetings, as required.
  • Provide estimating support for the sales staff.
  • Responsible to attend networking and training events as it relates to sales and estimating.
  • Required to travel to job sites to perform an onsite evaluation of facility and equipment identified in the Customer’s scope of work and/or to assist internal customers with estimating projects, contracts, or proposals.
  • Be able to work and thrive in a TEAM environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • PE licensure required.
  • Secret Security Clearance highly preferred.
  • Must have a BS degree in Electrical Engineering and experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, AutoCAD, SmartSheets and Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English both written and orally with managers and clients.
  • Knowledgeable of current NEC, NFPA-70E, Electrical Classifications, IEEE/ANSI and other applicable current design standards and guidelines.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Minimum of Five (5) years of experience in electrical estimating with an emphasis on EV infrastructure.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in labor cost and pricing, required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the electrical service work in industrial, commercial, and retail.
  • Valid Driver’s License with an insurable good driving record, required.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint OneNote) intermediate user, required.
