Overview

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a set of processes, data & systems that help us to manage our £11bn finances, procurement of c.£4bn goods & services through the supply chain, our operations & assets to Keep London Moving & Growing. It supports the management, development & reward of our people including payroll.

This role is accountable for leading all data & information activities across our portfolio. It involves work across multiple programmes with a variety of new & existing technologies across TfL.

This is broader than a technology role; we require a visionary to make us a data driven organisation empowering our people with accurate & accessible information. The ERP Senior Data Architect will be hands on & able to translate the ERP strategy and SAP Roadmap and lead detailed data management activities.

Key Accountabilities

•    Accountable for creation and maintenance of the ERP Data Strategy in alignment with wider ERP aims and the full data life-cycle experience for our ERP Transformation, including day-to-day leadership of all data activities to deliver required changes

•    Establishes data champions and drives the effective strategies for the use of data standards, analysing where standards have been applied or breached and undertaking an impact analysis of that breach to ensure continuous improvement  

•    Defines the current and future information landscapes for ERP in alignment with industry best practice and designs data architecture that responds to specific business problems, aligning it to enterprise-wide standards and principles

•    Responsible for championing and facilitating data governance as part of wider ERP, setting out approaches to drive and embed changes to ways of working in data management pan-TfL. This will include chairing cross-functional groups to drive consistency and collaboration, setting standards for how we design and manage data going forward so we have an effective pan-TfL data model for ERP. Proactively developing positive working relationships with key senior stakeholders to ensure business/user perspective is factored into programme scoping and delivery approach

•    Establishes and maintains an information landscape that provides an inventory of the data sets used across the ERP portfolio and putts a repository in place to ensure master data remains accurate and up to date across the organisation

•    Creates and maintains data models and diagrams to enable implementation of intended business architecture, working in partnership with the portfolio Enterprise Architect to show relationships between key data entities 

•    Ensures that changes to Corporate IT systems or new system implementations adhere to the data architecture principles and corporate data model, setting out a consistent business vocabulary to drive standardisation in the way we talk about data through the creation, maintenance and use of an enterprise wide data taxonomy. 

•    Matrix manages internal and external data experts to drive implementation of data best practice. Accountable for providing excellent leadership to their team, driving a collaborative team culture and an environment of continuous learning. 

Financial Impact

•    Matrix management of a team of 5-10 data analysts embedded within projects

•    No direct budgetary responsibility although the role holder is expected to support the Programme Manager and Head of ERP Change Delivery with accurate budget setting and accurate forecasting.

Key Interfaces

•    Senior leadership across TfL, including ERP Programme Sponsors to ensure buy-in across the business and drive effective data standards across the organisation 

•    ERP Steering Group – will be required to provide regular updates to the group that governs the portfolio

•    Third party supplier/s supporting the programme with delivery of systems – either through direct work on systems delivery or advice / support

•    Technology & Data senior leadership to drive delivery of ERP systems in alignment with our wider technology portfolio

•    Business Services Function, in particular the Master Data Management process owner, to achieve data aims

Skills

•    Ability to produce and maintain relevant data models for specific business needs 

•    Methodical & analytical approach to work, able to analyse complex data, draw conclusions and produce accurate reports 

•    Ability to identify the need for change and to initiate and implement change  

•    Excellent communicator and leadership skills, who can communicate and manage at all levels 

•    Understands needs of multiple stakeholders, both technical & non-technical, translating these into practical actions 

•    Acts as a strong advocate for the team externally and can manage differing perspectives

•    Ability to work under pressure, being flexible and managing conflicting priorities to meet tight deadlines 

•    Excellent interpersonal skills, with proven ability to establish credibility and build strong relationships at all levels, both internally and with external stakeholders to drive project delivery 

•    Comfortable using MS Excel, Visio and MS SharePoint

Knowledge

•    Understand ERP data relationships, specifically SAP Master Data best practice 

•    Understanding of the concepts and principles of data modelling 

•    Strong working knowledge of solution design and development 

•    TOGAF certified – desirable 

•    Bachelor equivalent: minimum requirement 

•    MBA / Ph.D. – desirable

Experience

•    Senior Data Management experience in multiple SAP ERP transformations experience is essential 

•    Strong experience of enterprise data architecture and designing technical solutions based on industry standards 

•    Experience of using Enterprise Architecture tools

•    Experience of shaping the data architecture in large, complex organisations 

•    Experience of project management principles such as the need for asset, work organisational and cost breakdown structures.  

•    Experience of building relationships with, and influencing, a range of people at all levels within and outside the organisation
