Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for an Equipment Technology Manager in North America.
The Equipment Technology Manager is responsible for a team of approx. 10 members who are involved with the development, design, quotation, fabrication and ongoing support of equipment that Air Products supplies for various customer industrial gas applications. The market segments supported include food freezing, industrial cryogenics, metals processing, glass and primary metals, among others. This position is located in Allentown, PA.
The mission of the Equipment Technology group is to maintain a multi skilled team to support our customers who install application equipment executed by this team that use our gas products (oxygen, nitrogen, argon, helium, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide), in both liquid and gaseous states. This skilled team also implements EH&S, productivity, standardization, development and fabrication through which systems design and installations occur. Managing, hiring, mentoring and training of all team members are a key part of the job.
The position emphasizes organization, planning, leadership skills with knowledge of many engineering disciplines. This position requires strong communication skills for their teams and customers.

•Striving for excellence Safety Performance: Zero Recordables and Lost Time Injuries
•Lead the Basic Safety Process (BSP) for the project engineering team. Integrate BSP plans and activities across the group. Attend Managers Level 3 BSP Meetings and incorporate learnings
•Lead serious incident and follow the Near Miss process involving investigations and communications. Ensure learnings from incidents are shared to prevent recurrence.
•Ensure use of applicable Operating and Engineering Standards, Electrical Codes, National Fire protection Association (NFPA), and other regulatory standards. Help develop, manage, and improve procedures to promote safe and efficient work processes and designs.
•Organize team project/product engineers to support multiple industries effectively utilize resources to satisfy business and operational objectives
•Train new engineers and provide technical support
•Complete projects per the capital or revenue plans and requests from customers with strong focus on achieving project budget commitments and ensuring revenue is recovered for scope changes
•Partner with Commercial Technology to quote, bid and execute against developed standardized offerings
•Mechanical design skills as well as knowledge of piping, instrumentation and controls are required.
•Strong electrical aptitude is a plus and experience with process automation, instrumentation and controls
• Follow all internal work processes for safety, engineering, project management, and operations.
• Manage and maintain product documentation equipment owned by the team.
• Participate in troubleshooting and Quality management issues as needed.
• Establish and maintain vendor relationships enabling product development and management
• Identify and implement new initiatives to reduce time required to bring new business on-stream
• Develop and maintain long-term relationships with vendors and contractors with a strategic mindset
Required Education / Qualifications:
•Technical degree (chemical engineering or mechanical engineering preferred)
•5 – 7 years of Project Engineering experience
•Strong understanding of the process technologies
•Strong organizational/planning/interpersonal/leadership skills
•Capital project engineering experience
•Design engineering experience for proper and efficient standard design
•Knowledge of UltraFlow or other fluid modeling and sizing tools
Travel: Position requires approximately 15% travel across North America as required
