Engineering Lead (Development Manager) – Wholesale Credit Risk IT

Our technology teams in the UK work closely with HSBC’s global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely. We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world’s leading international bank.

Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers. 

We work in small, agile DevOps teams with colleagues around the world from our global headquarters in Canary Wharf, our global headquarters in Canary Wharf, and multiple other locations around the UK including Sheffield, Leeds, Barnsley and Birmingham. 

Following extensive investment across our Technology and Digital domains and with plans for continued expansion throughout 2020 and beyond, we are currently seeking a number of experienced Development managers to join HSBC Technology.

Overview of the business areas 

Risk Technology provides IT services for HSBC’s “Second line of Defence” Global Risk Function.  Global Risk is a diverse and evolving function, acting as “Risk Steward” for many of HSBC’s financial and non-financial risks.  Given HSBC’s global and universal banking model, the Risk Function is structured to “Protect and enable” HSBC’s global businesses across all regions. 

Wholesale Credit Risk (WCR) function within Risk Technology provides technology services covering areas of underwriting, monitoring and product management for wholesale business across the enterprise.

What you will be doing;

The Engineer Lead (Development Manager) is responsible for leading the infrastructure pods to ensure that the infrastructure is compliant & scales with the delivery of the regulatory reporting (ex. various global and local regulations like Large Exposure Reporting, HKMA S81, AnaCredit etc) in wholesale credit risk. 

The role involves working with:

• Key stakeholders from WCR business and transformation to understand the requirements
• Risk chief architect and infrastructure architect to ensure the infrastructure is designed with best industry practices, are aligned with group strategy, leveraging and promoting best practices across the wider group.
• Head of Regulatory Reporting WCR IT and Risk Data Platform lead to ensure the requirements, SLA/O/Is are met

The role may involve some functional/line management responsibilities of the WCR resources based in London & Hyderabad. This person’s primary accountabilities are to the Head of Regulatory Reporting

• Act as a SME on the design and implementation of infrastructure technology solutions to meet the needs of the WCR function on a tactical and strategic basis spanning Regulatory Reporting across various global and regional initiatives
• Be the point of contact in UK for various WCR infrastructure work streams
• Introduce new practices, processes, techniques, products, services, technologies and standards where needed against identified use cases, via the appropriate governance bodies
• Act as a trusted advisor to the Head of Regulatory Reporting WCR IT and Risk Data Platform lead in creating a trust-based management culture with a high level of effective communication globally
• Be a champion for pragmatic and sustainable cloud adoption and re-platforming
• Accountable for ensuring compliance of the products and services with mandatory and regulatory requirements, control objectives in the risk and control framework and technical currency (in line with published standards and guidelines) and, with the architecture function, implementation of the business imperatives.
• The role holder must work with the Risk IT and Group Functions IT communities of practice to maximize automation, increase efficiency and ensure that best practice, and the latest tools, techniques and processes have been adopted

Qualifications

What you will bring to the role;  

To be successful in this role you should have proven experience within the Technology sector with knowledge of the following skills:

Specifically,

• Experience in handling projects involving large and complex big data processing and reporting needs for regional and global regulations. 
• Experience of designing CI:CD for app & infrastructure. (ex. Using Ansible, Terraform Packer)
• Experience of setting up managing Spark clusters & data virtualisation for data processing would be nice to have.
• Being able to perform code reviews
• If possible – experience of rolling and managing Cloud ecosystems (Google Cloud) 
• Experience of making complex design decisions with authority, even in times of ambiguity, balancing advancing strategy, immediate business needs and potential long-term risks and implications

This role will primarily be London based in our London Park Street office but some travel may be required.
