Overview
The End User Computing Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, configuration, implementation, testing and transition to steady state support of Infrastructure such as: network, telecommunication, server, storage, or software across the enterprise. They will partner with peer engineering teams on best practices, process, standards, and configuration management. The role is responsible for delivering solutions that are stable, secure, scalable, and cost effective, as well providing escalation support to the administrators.
Specialized Skills and Technologies
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of other MS Office Suite and software applications
- Experience with Desktop security audit, Image creation, and maintenance, enterprise systems support / deployment / management using an endpoint management solution
- Knowledge in Scripting (Shell, PowerShell or similar), AD design and administration, group policy
- Technical knowledge and skills as required for Tier 3 support
- Expert knowledge of server administration activities
- Demonstrated understanding and awareness of the ITIL
- Problem management process and procedures
- Capability to understand SGWS application portfolio and how the different systems contribute to daily business operations
- Experience with components of IT infrastructure including remote access (VPN), remote support tools, laptops, and wireless devices
- Experience with supporting audio and video conferences over GoToMeeting, WebEx, and Lync
- Experience with Logical User Access (LUA) account administration, SMB Network Design, and Implementation
Primary Responsibilities
- Evaluates vendor supplied hardware, components, and software packages for fit and performance and makes recommendations to IT management
- Diagnoses, Isolates, and modifies and/or debugs vendor-supplied utilities and packages performing problem resolution to hardware and software problems as required
- Maintains technical documentation for telecommunications, network, server, storage, and system software applications
- Participates in on call rotation
- Research, evaluate and recommend network-related software and hardware products and services
- Perform capacity and resource planning for network systems
- Assess network risks and perform contingency planning
- Provide input to supplier management team to help establish the telecommunications and network-related vendor service agreements
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Technical Degree in related filed or a combination of work experience and education
- Five (5)+ years in an Infrastructure or technical function
- Experience in telecommunications and networking environments, security, storage, server, and other SGWS relevant technologies
- Understanding of hardware and software dependencies
- Ability to translate business requirements to technical requirements
- Must possess good problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and good verbal/written communication skills
- Strong team player who can work across multiple functional areas and disciplines
- Capability to understand SGWS’ application portfolio as well as how the different systems contribute to daily business operations
- Familiarity with ITIL concepts
