Summary of Position:

This position is with the Product Development & Engineering’s (PD&E) Engine Test Services team. The primary responsibility is development and maintenance of the dynamometer test system software. This software is used for engine development, and exhaust emissions regulatory compliance.

The candidate will require a strong understanding of data base management and proficient in programming in a VBA scripting.  As well poses strong organizational skills, strong programming skills, and work well within a team environment.  

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Setup and support of PD&E’s AVL dynamometer test beds which includes:

    • AVL PUMA test bed parameterization and scripting

    • Database management: Engine specifications, Measurement channels, Parameter files

    • Interfacing to various measurement systems including emissions sampling equipment

    • Create and maintain standard automated test sequences

    • Create and maintain standard test result reports

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, & upgrade communications hardware and software including network, E-benches, combustion analysis & engine ECU

  • Test engineer/technician training and support

  • Maintain existing and support development of additional process documentation and test standards

  • Work with Mercury’s emissions and compliance team to ensure test data complies with regulatory requirements

  • Provide a customer centric focus.

  • Perform duties & responsibilities per Mercury Marine’s Safety & Regulatory standards

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Applied Science (BSME, BSEE, Computer Science) or equivalent.

  • Familiarity with VBA programming, C++ programming  

  • Excellent organization skills

  • Strong communication skills

  • Flexible to ever changing priorities and environments

  • Comfortable in multi-tasking situations

  • Team oriented.

  • Selfless, can do attitude.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an engine development/test data environment

  • Understands theory of instrumentation measurement

  • Strong technical writing skills a plus.

  • Familiarity with CAN bus, Profibus, serial and Ethernet communications a plus.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Access, SQL, Oracle or similar database applications.

  • Familiarity with database design & data normalization a plus

  • Familiarity with AVL PUMA and Concerto software a plus
