Responsibilities
- Lead contract negotiations with colocation providers to secure fair and cost-effective energy terms based on Microsoft energy lease principles.
- Regularly review and analyze energy invoices from colocation providers and their utility providers to track costs and identify cost savings opportunities for Microsoft.
- Lead datacenter interconnection and energy supply contract development with utilities and third-party energy suppliers in support of Microsoft’s datacenter businesses in EMEA.
- Lead or assist on regulatory engagements with utilities, regulators, and related stakeholders important to datacenter infrastructure deliver, cost/range management and sustainability goals.
- Lead or assist in the analysis of energy industry trends, market policy and regulations to proactively identify opportunities to reduce cost, minimize risk, and advance sustainability goals.
- Partner with globally distributed internal stakeholders on site selection and energy project development, e.g. distributed energy, renewables.
- Work collaboratively with external vendors and consultants on regional market research.
- Develop internal business cases including providing input on financial models and market research.
- Build relationships with external suppliers and partners, particularly electric utilities, local and regional regulatory agencies, customers, and energy technology providers.
- Work with third parties to develop and monitor analytics tools for portfolio analysis.
- Business travel required (10%-25%, subject to fluctuation with business tempo).
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, engineering disciplines, business
- Etensive experience in project management.
- Broad understanding of datacenter colocation and contract structures
- Experience negotiating business agreements and creating win-win scenarios.
- Broad understanding of the European power industry, with specific focus on the mechanics of deregulated power markets.
- Strong analytical capabilities to support review of utility tariffs, power contracts, and power market fundamentals.
- Possess an entrepreneurial, self-directed spirit and proven track record of project execution.
- Team player capable of adapting to ambiguous environments with cross-group collaboration and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communications (verbal and written) skills.
- Growth mindset with problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding and experience working within Europe’s datacenter colocation industry.
- General understanding of data centers and cloud services.
- MBA/post-graduate degree in relevant fields a plus, though experience in consulting and power/energy industries may substitute for relevant graduate education in this regard.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
