Responsibilities
Responsibilities: Candidate will directly support the global DCE Power Harvest program. Duties will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Performing detailed analysis of space, power, and cooling to assess power harvesting opportunities
- Collaborating with local site teams to develop site specific power harvesting strategy
- Developing creative solutions to utilize otherwise stranded capacity while keeping all customer services secure
- Seek emerging and proactive opportunities to optimize Microsoft’s installed capacity and increase revenues to the business
- Working with capacity planning teams to mitigate capacity gaps
- Aligning with project execution teams to ensure all work is planned and executed without impact to Microsoft’s critical environment
- Initiate partnerships within the global engineering groups in order to jointly deliver additional cloud capacity
- Develop and follow published organizational and business processes and procedures
- Initiate, understand and contribute to continuous improvement efforts
- Partner with peer organizations in evaluating and selecting appropriate power harvesting opportunities in support of changing demand and in varied and complex conditions
- Be point person responsible for assessing space, power, and cooling to ensure power harvesting activities always keeping customer load prioritized
- Understand network growth strategies, site design constraints, regional limitations and business plans.
- Be able to communicate technical issues, risks and proposed solutions in a concise manner for the consumption of non-technical audiences.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Basic:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical experience
- Extensive experience in construction / engineering / operation of hyperscale datacenters or similar large scale and complex engineering systems (Pharmaceutical, Micro Electronics are two examples of relevant industries)
- Established understanding of electrical & cooling theory with practical application
- Be knowledgeable in data center design, operation and fit out
- Solid understanding of datacenter design and operation with ability to assess failover modes
- Knowledge of construction techniques, terminology, and documentation (ability to interpret blueprints, electrical one-lines, construction drawings etc.)
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to lead and be proactive
- Excellent problem-solving, judgment, team building, and decision-making skills
Preferred:
- Licensed professional engineer
- Practical experience with building automation and electrical power monitoring systems
- Ability to present using the MS Office Suite; MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
