One focus area of the Amazon Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) mission is to provide tools, resources, and environments that support safe, efficient, healthy behaviors and encourage employees to proactively manage their health and wellbeing. To support this focus area, we are searching for a Workplace Health & Safety Methane and Vapor Intrusion (VI) Field Manager.
This role will be based at our Corporate Office in London and requires domestic travel 40-70% of the time.
In this role you will be responsible for partnering with corporate and on-site staff to support safe operation of vapor intrusion mitigation and methane mitigation systems. You will be responsible for understanding currently operating systems, verifying their proper operation, troubleshooting problems, completing monitoring and reporting obligations, coordinating with local regulatory agencies, and advising other WHS teams on the conditions and safe operation of each system. Additionally you will support on-site personnel during building renovation to ensure safety protocols during renovation are in-place, and confirm system functionality is maintained during and after completion of renovation work.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Oversee operation, maintenance, and monitoring of multiple active vapor intrusion and methane mitigation systems throughout the UK and EU.
· Conduct routine field visits to verify site conditions and safe and effective system operation.
· Schedule maintenance and hire qualified contractors to execute work on your behalf at locations.
· Manage contractors who provide construction or renovation oversight, remote system sampling, and maintenance support.
· Evaluate, coordinate, and oversee integration of telemetric mitigation system controls into building management systems (BMS).
· Train on-site staff in the functionality of systems and their components.
· Produce standard operating procedures for response to system failure and alarm conditions.
· Evaluate, coordinate, perform, or oversee onsite training for associates related to system operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
· Review, produce, and maintain records of system operation, maintenance, and monitoring for both internal use and for regulatory approval.
· Provide regulatory coordination, as needed, for reporting and alarm response actions.
· Suggest and implement mitigation system optimization to reduce costs, improve safety, or minimize operational disruption.
· Review and track system telemetric data from equipped systems. Provide support for local teams to manage alarm conditions.
· Interface with Global Security Operations Center (GSOC) regarding system monitoring and response actions. Serve as point-of-contact in response to troubleshooting and alarm conditions.
· Serve as point-of-contact for building owners and their contractors for system maintenance and monitoring as well as future renovations which may disrupt mitigation systems.
· Provide a single point of contact to wider WHS team to support them on understanding mitigation system obligations and inform future best practices.
· Interface with worldwide real estate team to provide visibility into system operation, maintenance, and monitoring.
· Draft mitigation plans for construction management as required during renovation activities. Support local on-site teams during building renovation activities through oversight coordination and plan review. Provide on-site support including reviewing contractor contingency and emergency response plans for high methane work environments.
· Interpret vapor intrusion and methane sampling results and health risk assessments.
· Review designs, monitor installation of, and review construction quality assurance reports for vapor intrusion and methane mitigation systems.
· Provide review and feedback to WHS for work performed by contractors, developers, and consultants.
· University Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field of study.
· Extensive experience serving as an environmental technical resource, program specialist, or project manager.
· Possess knowledge and experience regarding the design, operation, maintenance, and monitoring of vapor intrusion and methane mitigation systems including remote monitoring equipment.
· Understand the regulatory environment surrounding vapor intrusion and methane and demonstrate this expertise when working with internal teams and subcontractors.
· Experience in development and implementation of standards, policies, and programs.
· Experience in a dynamic, growing organization.
· Experience demonstrating a high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
· Exceptional organizational and communication skills and be able to send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing.
· Experience establishing and managing remote telemetry systems.
· Contractor management experience.
· Experience managing staff or providing direction and support to personnel.
· The ability to adapt and contribute to evolving approaches for the team.
· Analytical and problem-solving skills.
