Job Title :
Manager EHS & SustainabilityResponsibilities:Lead Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability at Thermo Fisher Scientific South Austin, TX site. The existing site is USDA/FDA regulated and consists of manufacturing and R&D operations with a total of 350 employees. A new campus is currently under construction and this position will be involved in design, start-up and oversight of EHS for the new buildings as well.This position supports the global EHS strategy through a program that seeks to:Proactively manage EHS & Sustainability in order to comply with all applicable regulations and Thermo Fisher Scientific standards, to achieve a safe and productive work environment and minimize the impact to the environment. Develop sustainable solutions benefitting Thermo Fisher, its employees, customers and the community where we operate.USDA/FDA regulated siteEssential Functions:Provide leadership for EHS and Sustainability programs in a fast paced, cross functional and highly collaborative environment. Prioritize initiatives and resources to maximize effectiveness.Interact with leadership to understand EHS needs to support business growth.Utilize Lean tools and principles (Kaizen, Gemba, RCCM, etc.) to drive Continuous Improvement of EHS and Sustainability programs.Maintain OSHA VPP certification and reinforce and sustain a safety first culture through involvement and innovation with site leadership and operational teams.Implement all elements of Thermo Fisher Scientific LSG EHS management system including all EHS regulatory requirements applicable to the site. Act as primary point of contact to regulatory agency / government authorities.Develop and improve EHS programs and processes to meet the changing needs of the business.Oversee the administration of company compliance with regulatory permits. Prepare applications, interpret regulations and adapt written programs as necessary.Provide technical expertise and guidance to solve EHS and Sustainability related challengesDevelop and execute strategy to systematically control and reduce safety hazards and risk of injury or chemical release.Lead sustainability initiatives and projects to consume less energy, water and waste.Establish safety committees, emergency response teams, IBC team, and otherwise engage employees to achieve EHS/Sustainability goals.Manage EHS training program strategy, content and deployment. Including targeted training metrics and effectiveness analysis.Manage EHS budget and identify opportunities and actions for savings.Conduct site audits for compliance with company EHS and Sustainability standardsReview the procurement of chemicals, biologics, equipment and other materials purchased for production, engineering, and R&D to ensure hazards are controlled and regulatory requirements are met.Manage and have knowledge of life safety and Class 1 Division 1 flammable storage facilities.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, environmental science, or engineering discipline. Master’s degree in biological sciences or engineering a plus. Must have thorough knowledge of federal and local EHS regulations, including OSHA and EPA. Professional certification: CSP, CIH, preferred.
Experience/Requirements:
Requires a minimum of 8 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety, or related discipline. A minimum of 2 years supervisory experience required. Demonstrated ability to triage incoming request and develop systems to ensure effective prioritization. Strong interpersonal and communication skills required, including the ability to interact with all level of employees and outside regulatory agencies. Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, and slide presentations required. Technical and practical knowledge of biotechnology, research and development and/or manufacturing is highly recommended, or a willingness to quickly become proficient is required.Desired

Working Conditions:
Many duties are performed while sitting at a desk or conference room, (e.g., operating a computer, using a telephone, or writing and analyzing data and/or reports, attending meetings). In addition, walking or standing within the office area is required for conducting inspections, site reviews, drills, participating in agency inspections, conducting EHS audits, assisting and serving as incident commander during Emergency Response activities.Limited travel may be required
