Job Summary:

Disney Publishing Worldwide seeks a highly creative and detail-oriented Editor (Project Hire) for 12-18 months to work on a variety of Star Wars and Marvel live-action novelizations and retellings.

The position involves working closely with members of Disney Lucasfilm Press, Marvel Press, and Disney Publishing Worldwide including editorial, global licensing, and creative operations teams, alongside licensees, to closely review and ensure high quality, an age-appropriate nature, and strong appeal of books designed for fans of Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in editorial in the publishing industry, the ability to read quickly, strong communication and writing skills, a keen eye for detail, familiarity with Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, comfort with online content management systems, and the ability to juggle multiple projects at once. Scope of work includes full editorial responsibility—from creative concept through to publication.

The editor will report to the executive editor of Disney Lucasfilm Press and also to the executive editor of Marvel Press, both a part of Disney Publishing Worldwide.

This position can be remote.

Responsibilities:

  • Support senior editorial staff in developing and publishing Disney Lucasfilm Press and Marvel Press titles, performing editorial work—including manuscript reviews, line edits, and editorial letters—as needed.
  • Oversees the pick-up of global and vertical assets by licensees.
  • Assisting senior editorial staff on communications with authors, agents, Disney Lucasfilm Press, Lucasfilm, Marvel Entertainment, Marvel Studios, Marvel Press, and Disney Publishing.
  • Perform departmental administrative work, including maintaining schedules and data records, requesting contracts, and assisting with presentations.
  • Builds and curates solid relationships with authors/filmmakers/studio/licensees/artists/designers to create high-quality Disney Lucasfilm Press and Marvel Press content.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Two plus years experience in an editorial role in the publishing industry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the Star Wars films and the Marvel Cinematic Universe
  • Experience with licensing

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree
