Remote working -  base location flexible within easy access to any of our current main Hubs:   Liverpool, Burnley, Newark, Birmingham, Gloucester, Milton Keynes.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Earth Structures Inspector (Geo-technical Engineer) to join our growing UK team. 

 

The Earth Structures Inspector is a vital role in the Asset Management Team and contributes to the delivery of the Trusts Asset Management Strategies. They undertake Specialist inspections to the Trust’s Embankment & Cuttings (some of the highest risk assets at the Trust) and provide the specialist technical support to the wider business.

 

Location & coverage

 

Our Inspector vacancy will be offered on a remote working basis, with a requirement to attend our main hub spaces as and when required for team working collaborative meetings.  Significant travel throughout the regional waterway network in the Midlands & Northwest will also be expected to enable site visits and to conduct improvements.

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

 

Key Accountabilities:

Responsible for undertaking scheduled Earth Structure inspections, ensuring that they are completed to plan, data is reviewed, approved, and recorded in the prescribed format, to the prescribed quality.

Responsible for undertaking reactive inspections to defects or environmental issues, ensuring they are completed to prescribed format and quality in a timely manner as and when required.

Support others to assess the outputs from inspections, make informed recommendations and proposals on the prioritisation of required work, accounting for; risks, cost, time, resources, heritage, environment and safety.

Engage with the Trust‘s customers whilst inspecting on the network and promote a positive image of the Trust and the work it does. Feedback comments and complaints to the relevant internal teams.

Support the definition of the maintenance, repair and renewal works for delivery by the Trust‘s teams and contractors, taking account of, all statutory, technical, operational and customer requirements.

Provide specialist technical support to wider Engineering Teams, Third Party Works, and Externally Funded Works, as and when required.

Support internal and external enquiries associated with the assets. Respond as appropriate by reference to relevant information sources and offer efficient and cost-effective recommendations.

Build relationships with local representatives of partnerships, regulators, and stakeholders to protect, maintain, and continually improve levels of service and improve data held by the Trust.

Ensure that diversity and inclusion are integrated into all aspects of Trust life and promote inclusion by challenging behaviour, practices, actions, or decisions that are counter to the objectives of the Trust’s. 

Knowledge, Experience & Skills

 

Technical: 

Membership of relevant professional body (ICE) at an appropriate level (e.g. TMICE) is preferred.

GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths.

Professional qualification in a relevant technical discipline, such as Degree or HNC/D in Civil Engineering or other relevant discipline.

Demonstrate relevant experience and knowledge of waterway infrastructure and Earth Structures.

Proven experience of inspecting / delivering engineering activities.

Practical experience in assessing infrastructure risk, desirable. 

Knowledge and understanding of historic infrastructure, desirable. 

Experience of engineering in the water environment, advantageous. 

 

General:

Demonstrable experience in cross-functional working, delivering consistent performance.

Experience in the delivery of excellent customer service standards.

Able to communicate with technical staff and external contacts.

Able to support other areas of the business in an appropriate manner, taking account of overall business priorities and negotiating resources as appropriate.

Able to provide a good standard of written communication and proven ability to present technical data to non-technical audiences.

Valid driving licence appropriate for vehicle driven.

What We Offer

In addition to your annual salary in the range of £28,000 - £34,000 (DOE), we also offer a Car Cash allowance of £390 per Month. 

 

£32,500 - £38,500 inclusive of allowances (DOE).
