Hours of work: 47.5 Hours a week, various full time hours required
As part of our rapid expansion plans and implementation of the LGV driving Academy within our supply chain, our experienced Driver Training Instructor (DTI) will train, develop and nurture the next generation of LGV driving talent through licence acquisition training from car licence to LGV class 1 (C+E). When not delivering licence acquisition training the DTI will assist the local driver trainer assessors (DTA) in carrying out periodic risk based LGV assessments and any identified corrective training post accident/incident. With experience of teaching and motivating new and existing drivers the DTI will be key to developing and maintaining a high calibre of driving standards. The DTI will be seen as a role model within the driving community, while being flexible and agile in a fast paced transport operation. Flexibility would also need to be shown with regards to working location as at times you will be needed to work in other locations.
What you’ll be doing:
Providing approved Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) training and assessment to DVSA or Road Transport Industry Board (RTITB) standard for new, ongoing and remedial training.
Delivering high calibre driving tuition to drivers who are working to obtain their Cat C and / or their Cat C+E licences, including through apprenticeship levy funded programmes
Delivering and sustaining a high first-time pass rate of delegates undertaking Licence acquisition training
Line Managing Drivers through the entire training process from candidate selection through to application and on boarding
Supporting and promoting the use of Transport Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance is in line with the Partnership’s standards, consistently giving timely feedback to Partner and agency workers whilst generating positive ideas for improvement
Ensuring periodic training needs are met within the Primary Transport Network.
Adhering to and promoting, regulations regarding vehicle maintenance, EU drivers’ hours and Working Time Directive (WTD) legislation
Upkeeping of training records in accordance with legal and business requirements
Supporting users of Transport systems including telemetry and tachograph analysis systems
Providing advice and recommendations regarding driver collision investigation
Developing networks within the Partnership and external stakeholders to benchmark and continuously improve the department's driving standards
Supporting technical developments with vehicle telematics, digital tachographs and the recording of relevant and implement changes that support both driver and business development.
When instructing/demonstrating, driving and operating within EU drivers’ hours Rules and Regulations, the Partner handbook and complying with Working Time Directive (WTD) legislation.
Successfully leading candidates through Licence acquisition with high degree of first time pass rates above the industry standard
Supporting DTA’s to ensure all risk based driving assessment are up to date
Supporting repeat collision training and showing YOY improvements.
Through instruction, driver performance scores evidenced through improved vehicle telemetry scores.
Able to demonstrate a high level of customer service and professional conduct.
Supporting internal audit review and demonstrate YOY improved compliance trends.
Delivering of Pre-employment assessments, upskilling current drivers and delivery of LGV ‘driving goods vehicle’ apprenticeships for both internal and external candidates from licence categories B to C+E, inclusive of CPC module 4
Providing ongoing and remedial training through clear instruction, whilst adapting teaching styles to suit the learning needs of individual candidates. Facilitate driver development ‘end to end’ for both new and existing Partners
What you’ll need:
Current, valid C+E licence
Valid DCPC
Full understanding of Working Time Directive Regulations
Full understanding of EU drivers’ hours legislation
PC skills
*Registered Instructor: NRI, NVDIR, RTITB or relevant DVSA licence acquisition qualification (*Training can be provided, achievement of this qualification is essential to this role)
DVSA/RTITB/NRI qualified LGV Instructor/Assessor
Comprehensive knowledge of Transport compliance & systems
Knowledge of Operator licence undertakings
