Job Description

The Role:

Carry out store visits in the North area to ensure that all stores are compliant to relevant Fire Safety & Health and Safety Legislation and that staff and customers are safe, whilst remaining commercial, including completing a competent Fire Risk Assessment during store visits within timescales dictated by risk matrix.

To be responsible for delivering training and instruction to all stores within regions. 

Assisting in reviewing and writing all course material and procedures regarding Fire & Health and Safety delivered in store to responsible person / store manager level.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Identify legislation and best practise, interpret, monitor, evaluate and review Health and Safety policy and practice, make recommendations to implement new policies and procedures as required.

Ensure management systems and controls are in place within regions to support a positive Fire, Health and Safety culture, taking commercial considerations into account    

Provide advice on providing a safe workplace and public area according to legislation and company policy.

Carry out regular store inspections to check policies and procedures are properly implemented and correct standards are maintained.

Liaise with external authorities as and when necessary and take appropriate action to prevent/reduce any formal action, liaising with relevant departments and reporting to Group Health and Safety Manager.

 Assess individual Retail Fire risk assessment in all stores is suitable and sufficient, providing each store with a competent Fire Risk Assessment recorded centrally.

Provide Store Manager with an action plan to enable them to follow up actions from the risk assessments according to priority.

Compile individual store specific information on fire systems to assist managers with their duties.

Ensure Stores Emergency Plan is relative and effective making amendments where necessary.

Carry out Quality Check in stores on both Fire related and general health and safety to ensure the business priorities and policies are adhered to.

Writing and delivering Fire & Health and Safety training, continually monitoring and making recommendations for improvement.

Assist Group Health and Safety Manager to implement existing and new policies and procedures within retail to ensure keeping pace with changing legislation and best practice.

Be a proactive and active member of the health and safety team, actively participating at meetings.

Providing specialist technical advice and support to Maintenance Managers (MM), Project Managers and Store Management Teams throughout the new store opening process.

Attend any training arranged by New Look to maintain competence

About You:

• Must have relevant experience in a Fire Safety environment, have completed NEBOSH Gen Certificate in Health and Safety and NEBOSH Fire as a minimum.

• Must attend fire safety / H&S course periodically to ensure current and competencies are maintained 

• Needs to be aware of all other functional departmental activities and to work with them to achieve results.

• Must be able to influence and adapt behaviours depending on requirements ie coaching manager v discussions with authorities.

• Must appreciate needs of business and have commercial understanding and be able to implement solutions to achieve company objectives but within legislation and ideally best practice.

• Needs to be able to communicate at all levels; and for advice to be respected.
