Summary
The BMS WW FME team plays a critical role in ensuring that healthcare providers are educated on the appropriate use of our medicines and have the information they need to improve outcomes for their patients. We develop strategies, tools, and guidance to empower Field Medical (FM) teams around the globe and ensure that they are aware, informed, engaged, and equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to perform their roles effectively and compliantly. The FMCL is a strategic member within the Immunology & Fibrosis Medical matrix organization who bridges WW FM vision to WW/US FM Medical strategic planning and execution.
Key Accountabilities
Reports to Senior Director, WW Field Medical Communication Lead (FMCL), Immunology & Fibrosis within the WW FME team
Serves as a member of the WW Field Medical Excellence extended leadership team & extended member of Medical Capabilities organization
Leads a team of WW/US Field Medical Communication Specialists (FMCSs)
Establishes objectives for team aligned with those for the broader Medical organization including Medical Capabilities and WW Medical leads
Responsible for strategy and execution of FM deliverables for scientific execution
Informs the development/update of the communication platform with valuable insights; Partners with Medical on the data-related nature of scientific exchange for healthcare provider interactions and Medical Communication Topics (MCTs)
Identifies and drives opportunities to standardize WW FM, FMCL and FMCS objectives and tactics/activities and increase accountability and value to the organization
Aligns with matrix stakeholders on accomplishments, trends, and Book of Work
Leads the collaboration of internal stakeholders across the Medical matrix to optimize and operationalize FM capability platforms to support educational activities, Medical insights collection, knowledge assessments, and data analysis
Strategy
Accountable for WW Field Medical (FM) therapeutic area strategies, guidance, franchise resources, WW FM clinical trial support and scientific data training for all new data disclosures
Contributes to Disease Area Medical Strategies and long-term plans and participates actively in the WW Medical, MCIT and Brand Matrix Teams for the therapeutic area
Partners with WW Medical Leads to ensure FM input in the WW Field Medical plans that support the overall Medical strategies
Defines FM Medical Communication Topics (MCTs) for Thought Leaders interactions
Provides clear direction to country field medical to drive overall execution of scientific communication for the therapeutic area
Develops strategy for WW (and potentially US) FIRe meetings aligned with Medical matrix stakeholders; facilitates FIRe meetings, develops summary reports, and drives follow-up and follow-through of actions
Execution
Leads training on Scientific data and foundational training - contributes to the design and deployment of training in collaboration with WW Medical teams and content teams
Partners with Scientific Content and Publications teams to ensure coordination for timely development of high-quality materials for use with customers, which are aligned with needs and internal strategy
Ensures timely FM training to upskill FM to have robust and informative scientific exchanges with external customers and internal partners, which accurately reflect scientific data of the disease area. This includes timely distribution of congress materials for use with external customers as well as for internal training purposes
Oversees development and maintenance of on-boarding guides/curricula and on-boarding eAssessments and Market specific onboarding process
Leads Pre-, Peri- and Post-Congress WW FM scientific training and medical booth activities
WW FM clinical trial support - key contact person for Global Clinical Operations (GCO) to coordinate appropriate regional FM study support and ensures effective execution of these activities
Provides Scientific training that is inclusive of the 3rd party call center and non-FM staff
Provides strategic recommendation for scientific communication including deployment of Field Medical resources, model, and structure across the geographies to ensure the appropriate level of scientific communication within the TA in different phases of the lifecycle
Works with central team and Country Medical Directors/Disease Area Heads/FM FLMs (CMDs/DAHs/FM First Line Managers) to ensure appropriate lifecycle flexing of FM Team across markets as appropriate
Works with WW medical and content teams to ensure timely delivery of high-quality scientific communications and training materials
Collaborates with WW Medical to select appropriate channels for thought leader (TL) interactions and facilitates integration and review of TL feedback and insights to inform actionable plans
Partners with WW medical and content teams to ensure TA pipeline materials are developed, communicated, and trained on appropriately
Collaborates with WW Medical teams to assess the effectiveness of FM training
Ensures compliance with GMA SOPs, GCP and ICH, Compliance policies and procedures and BMS Compliance Code of Conduct, as well as with legal and ethical standards
Alerts management and the Compliance Officer of potential compliance issues, as appropriate
Demonstrates consistent ethical and professional behavior
Communications & Value Demonstration
Distills scientific data on the disease area/TA and ensures accuracy within all communications to FM Markets by TA as well as to the broader Medical org
Communicates FM strategy and activities that are aligned with WW Medical
Partners with Market Medical leads, WW Medical teams, and FM Operations to establish metrics and define objectives
Defines and demonstrates value creation of scientific communications
Measures ‘success’ of scientific communications and trainings with qualitative and quantitative metrics in close collaboration with FM Operations
Facilitates best practice sharing across the markets
Ensures alignment with alliance partners, as appropriate
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Advanced Scientific/Medical Degree preferred (PhD, MD, or PharmD)
Medical/Scientific background from prior Field Medical deployed and/or Field Medical Management position in Pharma or Biotech company (2+ years advantageous)
Experience and proven knowledge in disease-state area (advantageous)
Country or regional medical role (2 years desirable)
Demonstrated ability to lead and influence effectively across a matrixed, multicultural organization and manage Medical and Commercial activities
Experience in developing global Medical/Commercial strategy and objectives for an asset portfolio
Proven track record in strategic thinking, ability to synthesize data and communicate effectively (excellent written/oral English mandatory), and demonstrate advanced presentation skills
Proven ability to innovate and to rapidly adapt to a fast-changing environment
Understand regulatory policy & guidance for Medical communications in the industry
Proven understanding of the medical environment and industry trends and their impact on the business
Demonstrated skills with tools and technologies used to communicate and train large Medical audiences (Live & Remote)
Ability to travel domestically and internationally, up to 20%
