We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Director, CMB Financial Resource Management Strats

Role Overview:

This is a truly unique opportunity to join at the beginning of building a new function within HSBC’s Commercial Bank that will have a huge impact on profitability and the way we do business. We are looking for people who have worked in a strat/quant function elsewhere within the finance sector or who have experience of modelling and analytics within the Commercial Banking space. The role holder will lead specific workstreams to identify opportunities to improve the profitability of the business using quantitative analysis, developing tools to monitor risks to profitability and leading cross functional teams to implement changes to the technology stack. This includes, but is not limited to, funding costs, interest rate risk, reserves, liquidity risk and RWAs

As a senior leader in the team, the role holder is expected to support the Head of Strats in defining the strategic agenda of the function through; supporting the build out the team construct, develop and release of tooling and infrastructure, identifying new and innovative opportunities, upskilling the wider team on techniques and methods, strong advocate for CMB FRM & Strats capabilities.

As part of a global team the role will involve working with multiple regional teams with a view to identifying best practice in terms of FRM and introducing those ideas and processes across regions. These include the use of technology, statistical analysis and risk management techniques as well as the enhancement of relevant models.

In this role, you will:

  • Through statistical profiling of disperse datasets representing inputs into the return on equity of the business identify opportunities to optimise one or more aspects of profitability metrics
  • Provide commercially driven thought leadership in to the design and calibration of relevant models in particular those used for pricing
  • Partner with client facing teams and functions to drive the design of capital & resource efficient products ensuring the tooling is available to monitor the performance of those products
  • Lead efforts to drive culture change across the organisation to embed quantiative tooling in to increasingly automated processes in asset classes that are becoming technology driven in the marketplace
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders within Global Businesses and Global Functions (e.g. Relationship Managers, Front Line businesses, Global Risk Analytics, Wholesale Credit Risk, Treasury, Finance & Balance Sheet Management)
  • Actively participate in and where appropriate lead cross-functional working groups & steering committees
  • Deliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets

 

 

Qualifications

 

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Extensive broad-based banking experience in financial services with preference for those who have focused on credit, ratesFX or cash management markets
  • Proven track record of leadership capacities, preferably within a strats / quant function
  • Experience in model development and lifecycle
  • Thought leadership and innovative problem solving
  • Highly numerate with strong background mathematic disciplines e.g. computer science, statistics, physics, engineering, etc
  • Deep knowledge of software development and experience in a range of coding languages e.g. Python, C++
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience of preparing and communicating key messages and recommendations to senior management and other stakeholders
  • Strong influencing, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Result oriented and team player who can foster strong and collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders
