Description:

The Sourcing Strategy, Capabilities and Analytics Lead is accountable for the development and execution of the Sourcing Excellence multi-year strategic plan. This role is expected to drive high impact / strategic functional initiatives for Sourcing Excellence. This individual is also expected to identify opportunities and innovation for greater efficiencies, competitive advantages and overall employee engagement including the performance of our Sourcing Excellence talent pipeline.

Additionally, this individual is expected to closely collaborate with peer Strat & Ops leads as well as Procurement Category, SE Functional and Regional Leads to ensure staffing needs for the operational value capture sustainability requirements are met, while building cross-functional expertise and process excellence within the organization.

Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities: 

  • Lead and/or support major strategic programs, make continuous improvement recommendations
  • Develop short term (<12 months); medium term (2-3 years); and long term (3-5 year) plans for Sourcing Excellence that encompasses people, processes, and technology
  • Manage the capability excellence portfolio for the Sourcing Excellence area, in order to ensure appropriate prioritization and value opportunities are realized and work closely with key stakeholders in business units and in corporate functions to coordinate cross-functional strategies and implementation plans
  • Develop, champion, and ensure implementation of ideas that will optimize BMS total cost of ownership, and support an emerging future pipeline of Continuous Improvement deliverables
  • Ensure highest standards of excellence across key capabilities
    • Provide a value chain perspective across the Sourcing Excellence portfolio
    • Oversee the adherence to annual strategic category management plans which specify how savings goals will be achieved, and finally ensure clear alignment between team actions and business unit objectives
    • Coach and/or facilitate resources within function to embed leading sourcing methodologies
  • Effectively manage teams through strategic planning and goal development in accordance with SS&P strategy
    • Oversee the review and revision of procurement practices to ensure their compliance with established laws, policies, and procedures 
    • Provide coaching for the development of personnel and lend expertise in development of sourcing strategies 
  • Support identification of Sourcing Excellence tools:
    • Ensure communication of requirements for Sourcing Excellence with IT /SP&C
    • Collaborate with the IT function to review and evaluate new technology to support the continued evolution of a best in class process
    • Develop strong partnerships with SP&C capability leaders to define, develop and deliver SS&P wide capabilities and processes  
  • Oversee Sourcing Excellence Analytical capabilities
    • Develop and implement standards to measure Sourcing Excellence performance and quality improvements
    • Provide prioritized sourcing analytics on supplier spend, category spend, sourcing compliance reporting, and pricing for high-risk items
    • Oversee sourcing initiatives to rationalize big data into appropriate classifications to support informed decision making
  • Actively apply continuous improvement activities within SE to advance effectiveness and efficiency
    • Conduct third party benchmarks related to the Sourcing Excellence Function to plot maturity and influence a multi-generational plan
    • Keep abreast of trends and best practices in the industry and marketplace; propose and implement opportunities where applicable
    • Model insource/outsource allocation; make recommendations as needed
    • Create plans, ways-of-working, and other programs to manage attrition and develop an advancement plan for SE resources

Qualifications:  

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S./B.A.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of business experience
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of multi-disciplined procurement experience
  • Minimum of 3 years Pharmaceutical Procurement experience
  • Experience leading and participating on cross-functional and/or global teams
  • Managerial experience including managing teams of senior professionals and managers and establishing performance expectations
  • Internal stakeholder management, data/information management, category management, process redesign and continuous improvement expertise, project management and performance measurement skills
  • Procurement process knowledge, contract management, financial analysis, market analysis, supplier analysis, supplier diversity, supplier management, technology utilization, strategic planning and integrated supply chain experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S./M.B.A.
  • Professional certifications (e.g. CPM, CPIM).
  • 7 years Pharmaceutical Procurement experience
  • Membership in Professional Associations, e.g. ISM
