Job Description:
Fidelity Brokerage Technology is looking for a Director of Software Engineering as a member of our team. While working to deliver business capabilities across a globally distributed team of IT professionals, the team continually strives to advance engineering excellence, technology innovation and agile practices. Must be a self-starter and visionary, able to work well with others, and communicate software changes to business partners, system analysts, QA engineers, etc.
The Role
This role will focus on infrastructure and production support, designing, implementing, and deploying infrastructure upgrades from outdated to current technology for highly scaled secure financial services for consumer and professional brokerage Web applications. The candidate will drive direction while working with project managers, systems analysts, offshore resources, tech leads, quality assurance, and architects to build solutions that meet critical business needs. Expected to possess Expert level problem solving skills and the ability to translate application storyboards and use cases into functional applications.
Provides production support through triage, design, and the implementation of software changes for post-production and security defects (SCR’s)
Develops software in support of infrastructure initiatives, including application and Web server and tech stack upgrades
Works with external vendors (Microsoft, Amazon) to certify, debug, and fix issues related to third party software
Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications
Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management
Develops and maintains partnerships across the organization
Specifies technical design approach and standards
Provides guidelines and develops standards for inspections
Provides ongoing assessment for improvement to application design
Determines boundary and relationship between technical architecture and application layer
Creates new design concepts and processes that improve the quality of technical design development
Remains current with evolving product design and development tools, techniques, and materials
The Expertise and Skills You Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
Solid foundation in Computer Science, with competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design
Experience with the following technologies (or similar):
10+ years of development experience with expert working knowledge of Java, HTML5 and CSS3
Expert level experience with web services (JSON, XML, REST, SOAP, etc.)
Continuous Integration – Jenkins / Stash / Git
Unit Testing – JUnit / Jasmine
Application Framework – Angular 2+ / Spring
4+ years of experience in Agile development
Advanced AWS Cloud Computing experience required
Experience with Jira
Champions innovative technology solutions to resolve complex business problems
Works across groups to find opportunities for organization-wide technology initiatives
Brings external information, ideas, and expertise back to the team
Expert understanding of the software development process including analysis, design, coding, system and user testing, problem resolution and planning
Possesses in-depth knowledge of technology, applications and interfaces designed to support the business
Demonstrates expertise in all technologies relevant to responsibilities, including communications, languages, environments, operating systems and databases
Provides leadership and expertise to multiple teams in broad technical areas on sophisticated organization-wide projects
Provides technical supervision on multiple, complex projects
Advises senior management on technical strategy
Evaluates and recommends new technologies
Review and validates new application solutions
Anticipates issues and challenges affecting application functionality
Maintains deep understanding of application
Procures and implements additions to application portfolio while maintaining fiscal responsibility
Align application functionality with business requirements and strategy
