Bechtel’s Clean Energy Business:

Bechtel has played a pivotal role in clean energy for decades, delivering more than 100,000MW of nuclear and hydro generation capacity globally, as well as landmark renewable energy projects such as Ivanpah Solar and California Valley Solar Ranch.  Today, the foundation of our clean energy strategy is developing and building core renewables projects (solar PV, wind, and battery storage), in addition to continuing our work in nuclear, hydro and newer technologies (e.g. hydrogen, carbon capture).  To drive this strategy and help Bechtel become a global leader in renewables, Bechtel Enterprises is focusing development activity on utility-scale solar, onshore wind, battery storage, long duration storage, renewables + industrial projects, and hybrid projects. 

 

Position Summary:

Joining the Bechtel Enterprises Clean Energy Development Team as the Director of Marketing and Origination is an opportunity to be an important member of an agile and fast-growing team that is leading a strategic and high growth business.  We are looking for a talented individual to lead the development and implementation of our origination and power marketing activities.  The position will develop new and existing customer relationships to communicate Bechtel’s value proposition and key attributes of our projects and product offerings, while leading transactions for our clean energy portfolio.  This includes our current core business of utility-scale solar, onshore wind, and battery storage, but also includes more complex and newer technology projects such as hybrid renewable projects, renewables + industrial load projects, renewables + data centers, etc.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead development and implementation of the clean energy origination and power marketing strategy for the US.
  • Originate, structure, and close transactions with new customers.
  • Identify new origination prospects and implement customer outreach strategies for all products and technologies under development.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with potential customers.
  • Lead transactions from beginning to end, working close with internal development, finance, legal, and EPC teams.
  • Negotiate and close definitive documentation with offtakers (including PPAs, virtual PPAs, energy hedges, and build-transfers).
  • Prepare and interface with senior management regarding strategy, customers, and commercial deals.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in technical/engineering or business field.
  • 3-6 years of relevant origination and power marketing experience.
  • 8+ years of work experience in solar and/or wind project development.
  • Experience with PPA transactions and energy hedge transactions, with a comprehensive understanding of contract and transaction structuring; has led execution of several transactions.
  • Experience in multiple ISOs/RTOs to demonstrate ability to advance a US-wide national portfolio.
  • Strong understanding of electric utility industry and US energy markets.
  • Understanding of RTO operations, transmission, and power generation and storage technologies.
  • Outstanding communication, networking, negotiating, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience negotiating build-transfer agreements.
  • Experience originating new business in multiple US power markets.
  • Strong existing network among utilities, C&I customers, and other potential offtakers.
  • Experience helping corporate customers solve their domestic or global clean energy goals.
  • Demonstrated transaction history in both wind and solar (rather than just one).
  • Master’s Degree or MBA.
