Job Description

In this position, you will oversee strategic development and implementation for all policy and programs related to toxicology and you will provide support for related areas including allergen and foreign material management. A primary function will be to help the company to evaluate and manage new regulatory requirements and customer expectations on chemical ingredients and contaminants. You will be a member of the departmental leadership team and will contribute to the strategy for food safety including implementation of FSMA. You will participate in external industry forums to support mitigation and management of relevant issues with industry partners within industry trade associations and affiliations. You will partner closely with Supplier Quality, Contract Manufacturing Quality, Procurement, Platform Quality, and Enterprise Food Protection & Regulatory Affairs, to ensure that all CAG policies and procedures are based on current regulations and sound scientific principles. You will work at our Omaha, NE corporate office.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Champion a culture mindset of food safety first and foremost both horizontally and vertically across the Conagra enterprise, providing strategic and technical leadership in the area of toxicology
  • Support the development, review and management of chemical hazard (allergen) and physical hazard (foreign material) programs.
  • Lead the internal program to monitor, assess, communicate and, as required, avoid new chemical hazards including those representing a reputational risk to our company.
  • Provide technical support to Conagra partners in Supplier Quality, Contract manufacturing Quality, Procurement, Platform Quality, and Enterprise Food Protection & Regulatory Affairs associated with assigned areas.
  • Collaborate with Food Safety to ensure appropriate pre-requisite programs to HACCP/HARPC are developed and functioning as part of overall food safety system
  • Be an expert on the development of FSMA Food Safety Plans for Conagra manufacturing plants
  • Provide technical expertise to Escalated Incidents and Special Situation (EISS) program and provide oversight to corrective actions
  • Evaluate and manage new regulatory requirements and customer expectations on chemical ingredients and contaminants.
  • Assess impact of chemical ingredients and contaminates and support development and execution of related standards and policies.
  • Develop commodity and issue specific risk assessment to determine the necessity for implementation of controls and testing within Conagra's supplier quality & issue management programs, and execution of mitigation strategies across the organization
  • Participate in external industry forums to support mitigation and management of relevant issues with industry partners within industry trade associations and affiliations

Position Requirements:

  • Leadership of a diverse team of scientific professionals.
  • Ph.D. in Toxicology, Biological or Chemical Science or related field.
  • 10 years of industry experience required including managing toxicology/chemical food safety issues.
  • Food manufacturing plant support experience.
  • Capable of translation of complex scientific concepts and test data into business relevant language.
  • Knowledge of regulatory, food safety, food manufacturing processes, technologies, chemical analytical methodology or other relevant responsibilities.
  • Experience working with external industry forums.
  • 25% of the time.
