The individual in this role will play a key role in building a differentiated position for BMS and our medicines by developing enterprise disease strategies that shape and maximize the future value of the BMS Immunology portfolio in the Rheumatology and Dermatology therapeutic areas. This is a critical role given BMS’s ambition to be a leader in these highly competitive and evolving markets, and our promising Immunology pipeline offering significant potential in these therapeutic areas. The position reports to the Vice President, Worldwide Immunology & Fibrosis Strategy and Commercialization.

Primary Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will have strong commercial experience to draw from and a passion for understanding the science underlying immune-mediated diseases in the areas of Rheumatology and Dermatology. An ability to translate scientific innovation into successful portfolio and commercialization strategies that support Immunology franchise growth and sustainability over the near-, mid-, and long-term is critical in this role. The individual in this role must be able to identify trends and insights, and anticipate the evolution of the future market place to identify opportunities to deliver life-changing medicines for patients. Defining what it will take to win and formulating how BMS can achieve this given the competitive environment, treatment landscape, and pricing and access dynamics is key for the individual in this role. This individual will be a strategic commercial partner with the R&D teams in Discovery, Early and Late stage development, Business Development, Value Access & Pricing, Business Insights and Analytics, and other commercial colleagues on specific asset and brand teams to inform and formulate the enterprise disease area strategies in the therapeutic areas of responsibility. This individual will play a key role in helping the organization identify and assess “white space” opportunities, conduct market opportunity assessments, support the long-term financial plan, and make recommendations for portfolio prioritization and investment choices that will shape the strategy in Rheumatology and Dermatology.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Leading and setting the vision for our ambition in Rheumatology and Dermatology and engaging and aligning the matrix team on that vision

  • Leading cross-functional workstreams and building seamless partnerships across functions and the matrix to develop disease/therapeutic area strategies in Rheumatology and Dermatology to drive strategic initiatives which may include:

    • Technology landscape, benchmarking, and strategic assessments

    • Competitive analyses, market analyses, clinical assessments for scenario planning associated with Rheumatology and Dermatology specialties, diseases, and portfolio-level dynamics

    • Identification and evaluation of cross-therapeutic area investment strategies in preparation for executive-level management and governance evaluation

    • Rapid impact assessments of key market and/or BMS portfolio events in the disease landscape, with both a franchise and market lens

    • Market opportunity assessments and identification of portfolio gaps supporting business development strategy and evaluations

  • Supporting enterprise-level strategic planning in preparation for the annual Leadership Team and Board of Directors meetings via close collaboration with R&D, commercial, BI&A and Finance stakeholders

  • Partnering with asset/brand teams on the annual brand planning process for assets within disease areas of responsibilities to ensure cohesiveness in planning and investments across the franchise at a worldwide and key market level, and ensuring efficiencies are realized

  • Building a long-term view of the market evolution and identifying opportunities for potential new technologies and platforms that will support BMS as a future leader in Rheumatology and Dermatology

  • Providing guidance and disease-level commercialization requirements (e.g., maintaining Target Opportunity Profiles (TOPs), technology gaps, including combination regimens and biomarkers/diagnostics) within therapeutic areas of responsibility

  • Maintaining an integrated and up-to-date view of diseases of interest within the Rheumatology and Dermatology landscape to support the markets

  • Developing presentations for senior management relating to the annual strategic planning and budget processes as well as on-going business updates

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required; MBA or advanced scientific degree highly preferred.

  • 10+ years of commercial experience, ideally with experience in immune-mediated diseases within Rheumatology and/or Dermatology. Knowledge of key treaters and in-market experience (Rheumatology, Dermatology) is a plus.

  • Consulting background is highly beneficial given strategic nature of this role.

  • Strong ability to confidently engage with R&D colleagues and translate science to commercial strategy.

  • Prior experience with pipeline, therapeutic area strategy, or early commercialization is a plus.

  • Knowledge of international healthcare customers, stakeholders and influencers and understanding of their needs preferred.

  • Proven ability to navigate through ambiguous and evolving healthcare landscape, and managing uncertainty through scenario planning for the future.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage complex issues

  • Strong analytical skills, with regards to market research, competitive data collection analysis, financial analysis and crystallization of key business insights.

  • Demonstrable track record of leadership, learning agility, performance, and accountability.

  • Proven ability to flex across different types of cultures, complexities, business situations and matrix partners

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, and strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
