Director, Head of Biologics Supply Chain Product Leads

Under the general guidance of Executive Director, Biologics Global Supply Planning, accountable for development and ongoing effective and efficient execution of the following as assigned:

GLOBAL SUPPLY CHAIN PROCESSES with the following specific process elements:

  • Leading, managing and developing the assigned team of employees
  • Develop & manage e2e supply plans to optimize business results for our key growth brands including inventory planning, budget volume planning, master supply plan management, escalated issue management
  • Appropriate, but robust integration with other global planning processes, particularly IPT, Inventory, GSR and S&OP.
  • Create and maintain BMS capability to provide comprehensive information, analytics and visibility around Network Supply status to all cross functional stakeholders.
  • Strategic supply planning including translating brand strategy (GO Team) into supply chain strategy (IPT)​
  • Biologics Network Planning Process to develop a Long Range Master Plan for all manufacturing sites both, internal sites and CMOs, with a focus on long term strategic capacity planning.
  • Appropriate, but robust integration with other global planning processes, particularly LTFP, Inventory, and S&OP.
  • Create and maintain BMS capability to provide comprehensive information, analytics and visibility around Network Supply status to all cross functional stakeholders.
  • Strategic supply planning including long range capacity planning for capex and sourcing decisions based on commercial LTFP and pipeline scenarios.

EXECUTION ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead the Supply Chain Product planning team to
    • translate brand strategy (GO Team) into supply chain strategy (IPT)​
    • Serve as brand escalation point across GSP, ensure supply plans overall align to e2e requirements.​ 
    • manage RST to track, influence, and plan for product changes within the supply chain
    • Lead Supply Chain Sub-Team to ensure clear communication of brand strategy & projects, as well as supply chain risk/opps.​
    • act as GSP representative on SCC for alliance management​
    • Endorse final plan and risks/opps identified during the IPT cycle​
    • “What-if” scenario analysis: Provides guidance to subteam on desired outcome, planning parameters, and other variables to analyze​
    • Serve as Allocation Team Lead (for risk levels 2-4), lead communications to stakeholders
    • Evaluate escalated risks & opportunities (from planning team) with e2e lens​
    • Ensure supply chain strategy (sourcing plans, inventory strategy, flavor management, etc) is clearly communicated to planning teams​
  • Active participant in prioritization, initiative oversight, continuous improvement, and change leader 
  • Escalate all major supply constraints and propose alternatives to the respective forums for rapid decision and execution
  • Lead the API & Long Range planning team to develop
    • A feasible MPS for API (consensus with sites/CMOs) and driving compliance for assigned manufacturing sites
    • Planning and scenarios for Long Range capacity
  • Provide analytics that support on target service levels to balance capacity utilizations and address BCM requirement at each node
  • Escalate all major supply constraints and propose alternatives to the respective forums for rapid decision and execution
  • Support Global Demand and S&OP Business Owner to develop Demand Review; Product Review; Review of GPS Product Strategies; Financial Reconciliation and Management Business Review forums

LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT OF STAFF

  • Give guidance to team members. Provide coaching and technical training as subject matter expert. Act as mentor for SCPL managers
  • Ensure culture of performance, collaboration, and accountability where individuals are valued,   recognized, and aligned to the BMS Mission & GPS strategy.
  • Support Executive Director, Biologics Global Supply Planning to ensure alignment of GSP process to S&OP, Site and External Manufacturing processes.

  • Worldwide scope with focus on top countries, key & established brands and early assets

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop the right functional organization structure and staffing plan to meet the functional, GPS and BMS objectives of cost, service and quality. Ensure the right person (talent) is doing the right work (key objectives) at the right time (priorities).  
  • Manage Supply Chain Product Planning & Long-Range Planning Processes for the Biologics brands
  • Leading and accountable for developing and maintaining a valid Long Range supply network plan for assigned global manufacturing sites (internal and CMOs)
  • Accountable for developing what-if supply scenarios to continuously improve performance relating to both service levels and total costs thru continuous evaluation of supply, outsourcing strategies, product strategies and the positioning of inventory across the drug substance network.
  • Communicate decisions and supply impacts to all stakeholders, escalation and prioritization of supply responses around all issues and opportunities impacting customer service to stakeholder
  • Support the Global Product Strategy process – and supporting sub-teams – to ensure product life cycle is supported, with supply/inventory plans aligned to defined strategies and support product level S&OP reviews
  • Provide input to the Global Supply Review process to incorporate major supply issues to the Network plan and any major deviations to the budget and/or previous plan.
  • Actively participate and support New Product introduction to ensure that supply network plans are optimally created and that supply plans are executed in support of the established timelines
  • Develop strong relationships inside and outside the organization including Business Insights & Analytics, site planners, site supply chain leads, Long Range Planning, Finance, Quality and Regulatory.
  • Define and implement and integrated supply strategy for the global manufacturing network, including CMOs
  • In conjunction with the rest of the GSC functional teams and GPS partners, ensure policies and procedures are in place which meet compliance requirements

Qualifications

Experience/Knowledge Desired:

  • B.S. or BA in supply chain management, science and/or engineering (biotechnology, engineering or related sciences).  M.B.A or advanced degree, diploma or certification in Supply Chain Management (e.g., APICS or CSCP certification) strongly preferred
  • Required 10+ years of supply chain management and planning experience for a reputed, global or multi-plant Biotech, Pharmaceutical or Consumer Product company utilizing world class supply chain planning and execution processes with at least 3 of those years as a manager.   
  • Required: Experience with global product supply planning and knowledge of Biotech, Pharmaceutical Sales & Operations Planning processes.
  • Good understanding and exposure to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other regulatory requirements
  • Experience in developing and implementing world class, global supply chain planning processes and managing them through deployment of global advanced planning and scheduling systems
  • Exposure and experience in Biotech / Pharmaceutical manufacturing process, principles and practices; preferably at production site and headquarters level
  • Experience in working internationally in a fast paced, reputable global Biotech / Pharmaceutical or Consumer company organized in a matrix structure
