Our location in Princeton NJ currently has an opportunity for a Director, APOC Program Management Office.

In this position the selected candidate will:

  • Lead “lean” transformation of program, portfolio and resource management with a team of resources that are deployed across APOC’s product modernization and new product development programs

  • Customize and deploy best practices and tools in support of agile project planning and decision-making, visual data management, standardized reporting and governance, issue and risk management, and communication to all stakeholders

  • Develop capability roadmap to ensure team has right mix of skills and experiences to achieve near-term Division strategy and longer-term portfolio roadmap

  • Build and inspire a culture of high-performance, transparent, seamless cross-functional collaboration, proactive risk identification and countermeasure deployment

  • Lead a team of project managers who guide activities across functions to meet the objectives of a given program including scope, resources, budget, and schedule.

  • Deep knowledge of the drug/device development process, regulations and regulatory requirements, and technical counterparts (e.g., Global Strategic Marketing, R&D, RA, QA, Operations) strongly preferred.

  • Exceptional project management skills, with proven ability to clearly define objectives and priorities, establish milestones, anticipate and mitigate risks, lead cross-functional teams to meet and exceed goals in a dynamic environment, while maintaining strong attention to detail and quick recall.

  • Experienced managing with ambiguity; demonstrated ability to take ownership of problems, exercise sound judgment and independently determine appropriate course of action where precedent may not exist.

  • An approachable and credible communication style, with exceptional verbal and written communication skills; to keep all levels of the organization informed, engaged and motivated.

  • Intellectual agility - able to pivot based on shifting priorities and balance multiple projects seamlessly in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent collaboration skills – able to navigate complex matrix within the Division and the broader Abbott organization to ensure alignment of priorities and partnership throughout program execution.

Minimum requirements:

  • Minimum 12 years’ experience in operations, supply chain, management, engineering, financial management and/ or equivalent experience with at least  5 years’ experience managing large ($10MM+) programs in global product development

  • 5+ years’ experience managing cross-functional medical diagnostic, device or  drug development teams, including experience managing clinical trial and regulatory aspects of these programs. Track record of delivering complex programs on time, within budget, and aligned to performance commitments.

  • Deep understanding of PMO principles, processes and procedures, experience establishing a PMO function is highly desired

  • Experience and ability to train others in one or more methodologies of Lean or Agile project management, visual daily management and continuous improvement methodologies

  • Experience working at strategic as well as project/program delivery level, developing and implementing effective Change Management approaches in a complex organization

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or scientific field is required. PMP certification, or other formal training through the PMI, is preferred.
