The Challenge
The Corporate Communications team is at the heart of DIO, sharing news and information about the crucial role that DIO plays within the Ministry of Defence.
Made up of four key disciplines; Strategy and Planning, Internal Communications, External Communications and Campaigns and Marketing, we inform, engage and influence a diverse range of audiences.
We are looking for creative communications professionals to join our growing team, who will help us to continue to transform and modernise our approaches and channels.
The DIO Marketing and Campaigns Lead is an exciting new role which will head-up the organisation’s evolving marketing function.
Leading a small team they will be responsible for DIO’s internal and external campaigns, digital content and corporate branding.
The Marketing and Campaigns Lead will be responsible for a number of strategic and tactical campaigns, targeting all of DIO’s key audience groups. They will bring a strategic approach, identifying, planning and implementing a range of campaigns that support DIO in the delivery of its 10-year strategy.
The successful candidate will be experienced in leading multi-channel communications campaigns, including managing the associated procurement, creative agency and partner management. They will draw on insight to inform planning and be competent in evaluating complex campaigns.
A key focus of the role will be leading DIO’s public training estate safety campaign - a strategic behaviour change campaign.
The Marketing & Campaigns Lead will also oversee the creation of digital content to support internal and external channels. They will manage DIO’s digital content creation team, as well as taking responsibility for identifying emerging technologies and trends and driving innovation. They will trial new ideas and strategically develop DIO’s digital presence.
As the senior manager of DIO’s corporate brand, they will lead all aspects of its development both internally and through brand partnerships with DIO’s suppliers.
The post holder will be a proficient relationship manager and will work collaboratively with leaders, teams and other key stakeholders. They will provide advice on marketing, campaigning and branding and lead on policy compliance relating to marketing spend.
As a senior manager within a multi-discipline team, they will support the development of the broader Corporate Communications team. We are looking to welcome a communicator who will champion innovation and creativity and embrace the challenge of shaping a new and growing function.
We employ approximately 4,900 staff from a very diverse range of professions, and we work across the world; in Germany, Cyprus and the Falkland Islands, Norway, Poland, Kenya, Belize, Nepal and Oman.
Main Responsibilities
• Lead the delivery of a portfolio of communications campaigns, including the delivery of DIO’s overarching Training Estate Public Safety (TEPS) campaign
• Lead the development of the marketing and campaigns function, establishing standards (in-line with GCS best-practise) and governance
• Oversee the design of focused communications campaigns to support internal and wider stakeholder communications goals
• Manage and develop the DIO brand
• Build relationships with stakeholders to ensure the effective execution of communications campaigns
• Lead the ongoing review and development of DIO’s digital presence
• Manage the team’s design function, assessing requirements and prioritising activities
• Provide advice to teams and leaders on marketing, campaigning and branding
• Line manage 2x campaigns officers and digital content officer (animator / designer)
Post Location
The DIO corporate communications team is primarily based at Whittington Barracks in Lichfield (WS14 9TJ). We offer a flexible base location for this role and for candidates who wish to work more remotely, we will look to assign an alternative MOD establishment as their duty station. Some key Defence locations are listed but others will also be considered pending approval.
Regular travel to the DIO HQ in Lichfield will be required, as well as visits to other Defence locations in the UK and occasionally overseas.

Desirable Experience & Skills
• Membership of relevant professional body (ie CIM, CIPR, PRCA, IOIC).
• Relevant professional qualification (ie CIPR/CIM).
• Project management qualification (APM or PRINCE).
• Line management experience.
