An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team as an Operational day working Manager!

An Operational Manager coordinates the planning, testing, and response to security/emergency incidents or concerns. They also provide informed recommendations on Security issues. Working in a modern, fast paced organisation you will manage a team of Officers and Supervisors within your geographical Area of Responsibility to deliver services to our customers requirement.

We are looking for someone who will implement and monitor standards across the AOR. You will ensure an outstanding level of service is maintained at all times. Quality leadership is key to success in this role: you'll tactfully empower and inspire your teams to do their best work while planning and managing rosters, ensuring compliance with policy, Customer requirements and efficient use of resources.

You will work closely with client representatives and colleagues to investigate, understand and resolve problems. You will also carry out operational activities such as disciplinary and grievance meetings, mentoring and performance management.

Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities

The key duties of an Operational Manager (OM) are as follows.

• To ensure the correct posture of physical and tactical resources to manage sites and maintain operational preparedness for security incidents, in line with local Joint Business Agreements/General Statement of Security Requirement (GSSOR’s).

• Oversee the management of resources, including people, and expenditure whilst ensuring a positive and inclusive working environment

• Lead Physical Security operations and set governance structures to appropriately meet the risk appetite, overseeing effective Physical Security to protect assets and people throughout the estate. Liaise with Unit Customers and Heads of Establishments on a regular basis about service delivery and any problems/issues arising. Following agreed prioritisation of tasks and risks

• Comply with relevant regulation and legislation

• Ensure all posts and tasks are risk assessed and Health and Safety policies and processes are followed at all times

• Liaise with Unit Customers and Heads of Establishments on a regular basis about service delivery and any problems/issues arising. Following agreed prioritisation of tasks and risks.

• Cooperating with other security providers at the Unit to provide a high-quality security service.

• Provide Head Office with returns when requested regarding staffing levels, personal case work, audits and weekly completion of PORT, recording achievement of tasks, overtime and other operational data.

• Ensuring National Security Inspectorate (NSI) compliance at all Units within your Area of Responsibility (AOR) auditing paperwork and processes and amending and updating local documents when required

• Reviewing rosters, Joint Business Agreements/ General Statement of Security Requirement (GSSOR’s) and Assignment instructions on an annual basis to

• Consulting with Trade Unions on local changes and building positive and effective relationships with all stakeholders.

• Carry out all MGS/MOD/Management training including Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) to ensure effective understanding and management of Health & Safety within their Area of Responsibility (AOR).

Travel Requirements

Some Operational Manager roles may cover more than one site and require routine travel using official vehicles between Units. There will also be an expectation to travel in order to attend meetings, training courses or carry out Personnel case work at other locations throughout the UK.

Desirable Experience & Skills

A background, qualification or demonstrable interest in the delivery of site security and/or customer service will be an advantage.

This is a Fixed-term Appointment for 2 Years This post will therefore begin from your start date and end after 2 Years.

Therefore, you should be aware that when your Fixed-term Appointment at MOD comes to an end, you may (if you are an existing civil servant) become at Risk of Redundancy and be given Priority Mover Status, unless:

• the contract end date is met and honoured, for external employees who are not existing civil servants.

• an extension to your Fixed-term Appointment has been agreed.

• a conversion of the Fixed-term Appointment to a permanent role has been agreed.

• you return to your home department

• you are successfully redeployed into a suitable alternative post.

• you secure another Civil Service post through a recruitment process.

Permanent Civil Servants joining the Ministry of Defence (MOD) on a Fixed-term Appointment:

If you accept a Fixed-term Appointment with MOD, the preferred option is for you to transfer from your home department on a loan basis to ensure you can return to your home department at the end of the Fixed-term Appointment. Exceptionally, if a transfer on a loan basis cannot be agreed by your home department, you would transfer and become a permanent employee at MOD but on a Fixed-term basis. This will not affect your continuity of employment. If you face a redundancy situation at the end of the Fixed-term Appointment you will be treated as a permanent civil servant for redundancy and priority mover purposes only. You must have two years’ service to be eligible for redundancy benefits under the Civil Service Compensation Scheme.

MGS applicants are required to attend a medical appointment to undertake a colour perception eye test

Driving Licence, due to visiting other Sites for Meetings and to attend training Courses.
