Job Description

We’re supporting our clients as they adapt to a new world in the wake of COVID-19. We’re now recruiting for roles which will help our clients to deliver vital services and to resume business wherever possible.

This development team lead role is a largely internal facing role working to lead an agile software development team to ensure the team meets its sprint goals and delivers quality software on time and to budget, while also supporting the growth of the team through continuous improvement.

The role requires a technical background, being involved in the code base of the applications using in depth knowledge of Typescript, react, redux, node, SQL Server and MySQL, data structures, code efficiency and problem-solving skills to develop ingenious solutions to problems and customer requirements.

In addition to your own development responsibilities, you will be supporting the development work of others by supporting the individuals through coaching and mentoring as well as through working with the business analysts to help create suitably detailed items that the team can pick up and implement in an efficient manner.

As a development team lead, you will lead a development team of around 7-12 people including around 5 software developers, plus a number of test analysts and business analysts.

What you're be doing:

As a development team lead, you will be leading an agile software development team and report to the software development manager who will support you in managing your team.

You will be assigned a line manager who is responsible for your welfare, career progression and other related personal discussions and management.

As a development team lead, you will be responsible for the line management of several software developers to manage their career progression and welfare, while also working to support the task management of the full team of software developers, test analysts and business analysts.

You will be expected to assist with coaching and mentoring of some of the less experienced members of the development team, helping to support them with your knowledge and experience.

  • Support the tracking of deliverables by clearly escalating risks and issues affecting the delivery

  • Assist in creating recommendations for delivery dates based on the required effort

  • Working to understand the team priorities to ensure the team are correctly focused on deliveries

  • Provide line management, supporting their welfare and career

  • Provide task management, ensuring the most critical work gets completed to schedule

  • Provide mentoring and support to less experienced developers to ensure they can progress and complete their work

  • Carry out peer code reviews to help ensure code quality is of a suitable standard

Business Analysts / Product Manager

  • Provide task management, ensuring the most critical work gets completed to schedule

  • Work to understand future changes to the software and offer guidance on technical solutions and the required effort to implement them

  • Work to create cutting edge designs and solutions to implement more complex product changes

  • Help add technical detail to work to help support the team’s implementation of them

Test Analysts

  • Provide task management, ensuring the most critical work gets completed to schedule

  • Demonstrate your solutions upon reaching the test phase to ensure the test analyst can fully understand the work they are testing

  • Observe any reported issues and help identify ways of resolving them

Support Engineer

  • Collaborate on investigations to customer issues that require more in-depth problem solving such as code analysis or diagnostic software

What we're looking:

  • A proven ability to conduct both task and line management of individuals and teams

  • Experience of leading the technical development of large-scale software applications across web, desktop and server in both a design and development capacity

  • Strong problem-solving mindset and technical development skills using Typescript, React, Redux, Node, SQL Server and MySQL

  • Experience of using agile methodologies such as Scrum / Kanban

  • Experience of source control repositories e.g. GIT for collaboration with others as well as safely managing the product source code

  • Knowledge of modern development standards and design patterns

  • Able to maintain a clear, simple, efficient approach in all aspects of your work

  • A passion to learn and keep growing to keep up with new technologies and progress your career

  • A good attention to detail and a drive to get things right first time

  • Due to the nature of our work you must be eligible for Security Clearance
