Overview of Role
You will be responsible for providing administrative support for London Transport Museum’s hugely successful Corporate Membership scheme working closely with the Corporate Membership Development Manager to project manage events, manage small projects / campaigns, deliver the Corporate Membership scheme and attract new Members.
The Development Executive will be required to pro-actively build and manage relationships with Members and key stakeholders, delivering a high level of service and maintaining creditability of the Museum as a good organisation to be associated with.
Key Accountabilities
• Work closely with the Marketing & Development department, the Museum Director, the Board, and external advocates to achieve agreed targets for income generation.
• Conduct preliminary research on companies and individuals that have a good reason to support the Museum, collate and cultivate relationships.
• Develop and maintain regular contact with existing / potential Members and stakeholders through phone calls, letters, meetings, presentations and events, or through a carefully selected advocate acting on the Museum’s behalf. Set up; attend meetings / events to understand the stakeholders and their interests in supporting the Museum and ensuring that contractual obligations are met.
• Develop and contribute to the delivery of a programme of cultivation and stewardship events, including the annual Corporate Members’ Reception and Interchange thought leadership events by working with the Marketing and Development department to identify a range of opportunities and events to strengthen existing funder relationships.
• Design and produce a range of communications materials to support the delivery of the Development strategy, overseeing the production of regular newsletter , working with colleagues and the Museum’s Design team to develop content
• Maintain a database of Museum Members and stakeholders, regularly reviewing the content of the Museum’s website to ensure the messaging is consistent with the Museum’s brand and strategic objectives. Promote the Museum's reputation as an excellent organisation to be associated with and support, building mutually beneficial relationships which serve the Museum.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Skills
• Excellent communication skills. Post holder must present themselves well in a range of situations, including one-to-one meetings with funders and stakeholders at manager level, written proposals and promotional copy writing
• Excellent stakeholder management skills
• Excellent administrative skills
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and manage time effectively to meet deadlines
• Attention to detail, editing and proof reading skills
• A flexible approach. Able to adapt to a range of social and work situations
• Committed to working with the team to meet income targets
• Diplomatic and sensitive to the balance between a range of organisational objectives and priorities
Knowledge
• Computer literate with a good working knowledge of MS Office products
• Working knowledge of fundraising strategy and practice
• Knowledge of the funding opportunities available in the transport, museums and heritage sectors
• An understanding of how to research and approach potential income sources, and previous experience of making applications to trusts, foundations and statutory income sources
• Good database management skills and working knowledge of at least one relevant database package. Ability to manipulate data and use it.
• Knowledge of the transport sector and the issues affecting it
• An understanding of the design, print and production process
• Understanding of the museums, cultural and heritage sector and its funding environment
Experience
• Experience of liaison with corporate and political stakeholders
• Experience of supervising and influencing others for whom you do not have line management responsibility, particularly volunteers
• Experience of event management and project delivery in a similar environment
• Previous experience of working in a fundraising department and experience of contributing to the development of fundraising strategy
• Experience of one or more funding disciplines e.g. corporate or events fundraising
