This role offers a unique opportunity to be at the heart of the Department of International Trade’s most ambitious transformation programme.

The Investment Transformation Programme aims to deliver transformative, digitally enabled change across our investment promotion operation so that we can expand our focus on landing high-value, high impact investments into the UK whilst delivering proportionate, effective and efficient services to investors.

This is a high profile role where the postholder will be responsible for designing and implementing the future of how investment operates in the Department.

Job description

Key responsibilities:

- The Deputy Director for Product Delivery will lead and deploy the packages of business and technical change needed to deliver the Investment Transformation vision. You will provide visible and effective leadership as you manage the portfolio of projects, supporting your teams and the broader programme through end-to-end scoping, design, change management and delivery of significant business change and transformation projects.

- You will chair the The Investment Design Authority, which will hold responsibility for the integrity of the service design and operating model.

- You will develop clear vision and standards and champion the use of best practice in managing the investment transformation portfolio, providing assurance on major projects, and managing operating model implications.

- Provide relevant, practical and timely advice to senior stakeholders and Ministers on design and project progress.

- Work with, and hold to account, internal service owners to ensure successful delivery of Programmes and projects, ensuring that programme and projects are delivered within budget and to agreed service levels, with an eye on managing risk and assuring the end-to-end service.

- Ensure the right expertise, support and frameworks are in place to enable senior leaders to successfully deliver, embed and improve new operating models and ways of working.

- You will lead a multidisciplinary team incorporating commercial, programme delivery and technical (e.g. digital skills) and contractor and consultancy management.

You will developing strong relationships with corporate stakeholders (HR, Finance, Commercial, Digital, Data and Technology) as a key customer for change.

Essential Criteria

- A highly experienced Change Leader, with a proven track record of leading complex change programmes in large, dispersed operating environments.

- A track record of providing visible leadership in a matrix environment inspiring, motivating and developing others, with proven ability to build supportive and high performing teams.

- Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and influencing skills with a demonstrable ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders up to a senior level.

- An excellent leader of people who improves capability, leads through change, builds a diverse and inclusive team and exhibits an engaging and adaptable style that connects with people at all levels.

- Ability to successfully navigate complex environments and deliver through effective and collaborative partnerships across organisational boundaries. ?

- Outstanding stakeholder management and influencing skills with the ability to collaborate and engage with a wide range of senior and C-Suite stakeholders across the public and private sector.

Desirable Criteria

- Experience of driving digital transformation

- Change Management accreditation (APGM, PROSCI) or equivalent experience 

- Association of Project Management or Project Management Institute qualifications, or equivalent experience.
