Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities:
The Datacenter Principal Civil Engineering SME will provide
- Civil design support for projects through the full lifecycle including Site Due Diligence, Site Master Planning, Detailed Design, Construction Administration and handover.
- Technical direction and facilitation of the delivery of Microsoft’s industry-leading datacenter designs. 
- Collaboration with Global Technical Excellence team, Global Strategy Teams and DCE Operations to develop the datacenter designs from basis of design (BOD) to issue for constructions (IFC) and through the Construction Administration phase of datacenter until handover for new DC project buildouts.
- Direct the CSA technical delivery of multiple, concurrent, complete Datacenter design solutions aligned with the scopes, schedules and budgets of the projects. 
- Collaborate with the Site Selection, Operations, Security, and Design team to develop datacenter designs for new DC projects build outs and major infrastructure upgrades and in particular focus on telecoms upgrades projects across Microsoft lease and Microsoft-owned sites across EMEA
This SME may also act as Design Manager on selected projects while concurrently serving as the SME role.
The successful candidate will learn, live, and coach the One Microsoft culture and values.  Lead through change by bringing clarity, generating energy, and delivering success. And will also apply best practice in Health & Safety throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil / Structural Engineering
- Professional Engineer or Registered/Chartered Engineer
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of underground utilities, roads & carparks, earthworks and geotechnical engineering, storm water design and flood analysis, experience of detailed co-ordination with all other disciplines Structural/Architectural/M&E/Telecoms
- Ability to contribute to site master planning.
- Good understanding of construction techniques, sequencing, and site logistics
- Ability to lead teams of engineers in advanced engineering and operational processes and procedures as they relate to large datacenter environments.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Very Strong experience in mission critical projects (Datacenters, Laboratories and/or Micro-Electronics projects or similar).
- In depth experience as an Engineer.
- Demonstrated ability to write, speak, and present information effectively and persuasively.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to lead and be proactive.
- Excellent problem-solving, judgment, team building, and decision-making skills.
- Experience using MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio, and Excel including effective reporting/presentations of project information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- The ability to contribute to Structural and Architectural design is highly desirable.
- Qualification and experience in Project/Design Management.
- Technical understanding of mission critical environments.
- Ability to navigate in 3D Models, e.g., BIM360/Navisworks/Revit
