Role purpose
Develop predictive models using state-of-the-art cloud-based machine learning solutions with large and varied data sets. The Data Scientist will work on projects across multiple countries to create advanced analytics products that deliver actionable business value to Vodafone and its stakeholders.
The Data Scientist will work with a global community of colleagues across ML, technology, and commercial stakeholder functions, and will contribute to the wider Data Science community, supporting the enablement and progression of Vodafone’s ML capability.
Key accountabilities and decision ownership
• Design, develop and continually optimize Machine Learning models that are scaled and replicated across Markets
• Use a variety of datasets to test hypotheses, discover hidden relationships, and provide actionable outputs
• Deliver hands-on coding solutions for markets’ complex use cases deployed on Cloud
• Support the delivery of models in production, including the use of MLOps frameworks
• Use data visualizations to clearly explain outcomes
• Work according to Agile methodology framework Core competencies, knowledge, and experience
• 3+ years’ experience in developing ML models in a commercial /consumer / digital environment
• Proven generation of business value from machine learning models
• Knowledge and experience of statistical techniques and concepts
• ML Engineering experience - CI/CD and containerization (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, etc)
• Engineer at scale using production-level architectures (Google Cloud preferred)
• Experience of working in cross-functional Agile teams
• Commercial mindset approach to ML projects
• Ability to visualize and communicate data to non-technical stakeholders
• Experience working on Google Cloud Platform and associated services
• Experience with Recommender Systems, Pricing, Optimisation algorithms (preferred)
• Experience with Telco data, Digital / App data (preferred)
• Experience in Telco related use cases e.g., churn reduction, personalization, network optimization, customer satisfaction (preferred)
Must have technical/professional qualifications
• Minimum Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in quantitative fields such as Maths, Statistics, Ops Research, Computer Science Engineering or Artificial Intelligence, etc.
• Proficient in Python
• Proficient in statistical packages and ML/DL libraries/frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Pandas, SciPy, Sklearn, etc.)
• Expertise in data manipulation: use of structured data tools (e.g., SQL), & unstructured data tools and platforms (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, NoSQL)
• Expertise in modeling techniques (e.g. clustering, regression, classification, time-series forecasting)
• Familiarity with visualisation tools e.g. Tableau, Qlik, D3 (preferred)
• Software development skills e.g. unit testing, Git, design documentation (preferred)
• GCP certification such as DS, ML Engineer etc (preferred)

• Delivery of models used across the Vodafone footprint (number of countries re-using models)
• Technical and commercial up-lift of models (measured through A/B testing)
• Implementation of new improved modeling techniques across Vodafone
