Role Summary:

The Consumer and Clinical Analytics (CCA) unit of Cigna’s Global Data & Analytics (GD&A) organization is searching for an innovative data scientist to bring best in class solutions to shape the future of Cigna’s Health Matters Score (HMS). This role will report to the Business Analytics Senior Manager, Clinical Analytics, and work collaboratively with cross-functional partners within Consumer Health Engagement, Data Analytics & Engineering, Operations, Product, and Information Technology. This individual must have in-depth business acumen paired with data science expertise to help build and execute the vision and deliver sound, evidence-based solutions that enable identification and prioritization of customer outreach and customized and clinically-relevant intervention strategies to improve clinical and cost outcomes.

Key Accountabilities:

This person will contribute to the development of comprehensive analytic solutions that facilitate best in class clinical interventions for our customers. The responsibilities include:

  • Utilize data science and advanced analytics to create actionable insights and recommendations for business leaders to advance Cigna’s strategic objectives
  • Develop clinically-appropriate analytic solutions that meet the needs of the business and prioritizes interventions and clinical actions by customer and client in support of Consumer Health Engagement (CHE)
  • Develop advanced analytics utilizing Cigna's proprietary information while also leveraging new and innovative data sources
  • Stay up to date on latest data science tools and techniques (e.g. modeling, technology, and industry trends) and translate the relevance to our priorities
  • Ensure solutions drive long term value while also ensuring they can integrate with current processes and budgets
  • Understand and navigate the challenges in implementing solutions in the customer, clinical and omni-channel domains in healthcare to create value for the business, clients, customers and providers, and identify critical questions, provide robust solutions and satisfy cross-functional team requirements
  • Understand how our analytics affect the broader business and bridge gap between data science and stakeholders with regular and clear communication
  • Engage with and influence key matrix partners to help develop, execute and maintain the integrated CHE products in a changing healthcare environment
  • Provide thought leadership and technical expertise across multiple disciplines
  • Develop models that foster advancement of our products and product offerings by aligning business problems to a potential solution like GLMs, Machine Learning, Clustering or other advanced techniques
  • Query, clean and prepare data, impute missing data values, determine outliers, regularize and normalize data, and transform data
  • Query and build ML models across a variety of big data (Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Pig and Scala) and other database platforms (Teradata, SQL databases) and cloud platforms like AWS, Azure and GCP to develop clinically-meaningful ML features
  • Explore and visualize the data using tools such as PowerPoint, Excel, Tableau, and Looker as well as Python libraries including Pandas, Matplotlib, Bokeh, and Seaborn
  • Manage end-to-end modeling and solution development life-cycle from requirements gathering, identification of data sources, model development and evaluation, to data processes and model implementation
  • Work with data engineers to deploy models, build data pipelines, and implement scalable systems

Qualifications:

Please note- you must have data science healthcare/clinical experience with a focus on predictive modeling and machine learning to be considered for this role

  • Bachelor’s degree required with Advanced degree highly preferred in Statistics, Biostatistics, Econometrics, Economics, Epidemiology, Actuarial Science, or Data Science or equivalent work experience
  • Data science experience in the managed care or healthcare industry with use of pharmacy and medical claims
  • 3-5+ years of hands on programming experience working with R, Python, SAS, DataRobot and/or SQL
  • 3-5+ years working with open-source data science toolkits such as Scikit-learn, Pandas, NLTK and Numpy through Jupyter notebook or Pycharm
  • Proficiency, understanding and experience with leading supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods such as Multiple Regression, Logistic Regression, Neural Networks, Deep Learning, KNN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Trees, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting and Ensemble methods
  • Statistical training in school or through work
  • Previous work experience blending creativity with analytical, technical, and business acumen to problem solve
  • Proven ability to collaborate with others, establish working relationships, and communicate effectively within a large corporate matrix environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and Excel skills and project management skills
  • To influence, drive, and improve the areas above, the person in this position will need to be self-motivated and comfortable with ambiguity.

This role is Work from Home (WFH) which allows most work to be performed at home. Employees must be fully vaccinated if they choose to come onsite.

This position is not eligible to be performed in Colorado.
