Data and Architecture Office (DAO) was formed in early 2020, bringing together some of the critical services which are used by all GBGFs into one organisation. Established to transform HSBC into a truly data-driven organisation by ensuring that every design decision has a built-in data consideration.  As DAO we will provide leadership that enables data and analytics to be a key driver of our business strategy. Working closely to partnership with senior stakeholders and delivery teams all over the world to connect the business processes, data, products, services, and technology that underpin customer value and financial success. At the same time, we’ll work to drive consistency and simplification of our architecture.

Group Data Privacy & Sharing Team

The Group Data Privacy Team sits within the Group Data & Architecture Office (DAO), providing guidance, advice and oversight to HSBC’s Businesses and Functions on all privacy matters, including cross border data transfers.

The team seeks to ensure that data (including but not limited to personal data) is available to the business in a manner compliant with all applicable laws and regulations globally. We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join our team to work on a range of data privacy-related matters globally.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a range of data privacy and regulatory compliance issues and providing fit for purpose solutions that enable Group DAO and broader teams to execute DAO data strategy and sets out our path to becoming a truly data-led organisation, where data underpin our business and technology goals.

Principal Accountabilities

Impact on the Business

  • Enable Group Data Privacy & Sharing team to fulfil its mandate and ensure wider DAO teams are aware of and compliant with global data privacy laws & regulations.
  • Performing privacy assessments of operational processes, identifying, and mitigating risks through effective tools, training and guidance.
  • Embedding and providing guidance on Data Privacy Controls globally.
  • Assisting in developing, managing and maintaining data standards, policies and methodologies in line with Group Data Privacy Policy.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of data privacy and protection controls based on data policies that assure the compliant use of data and information across the region.
  • Providing support in developing and administering guidance, training and educational materials
  • Identify areas of improvement in local and regional practices relative to managing data privacy
  • Working with stakeholders to plan future data privacy needs
  • Acting as a role model on data privacy laws, working collaboratively with Legal Data Privacy and Regulatory Compliance to communicate on data risk policies 
  • Championing, raising awareness and understanding of Group Data Privacy Policy and control framework
  • Working with stakeholders on Data Privacy law, compliance and risks as required (for example by providing input on any changes to scope in controls or processes required).

 

Requirements

Knowledge & Experience

  • Solid knowledge of major international Laws and Regulations impacting data privacy.
  • Good understanding of how customer data is used within the business.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders, understand technology and commercial concepts quickly
  • Strong relationships skills / ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure with competing and rapidly changing priorities
  • Proven track record of taking ownership / responsibility for work and be comfortable working independently
  • Ability to identify and mitigate privacy risks with the ability to understand materiality of risks and prioritise / differentiate response accordingly
  • Flexible approach to working hours and environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Resourceful, creative and inquisitive approach to highly complex tasks.
  • Background in Risk Management or Project Management is desirable but not essential

The base location for this role is London but flexible work will be adopted
