Job description

Data Officer

Data and Architecture Office (DAO) was formed in early 2020, bringing together some of the critical services which are used by all GBGFs into one organisation. Established to transform HSBC into a truly data-driven organisation by ensuring that every design decision has a built-in data consideration.  As DAO we will provide leadership that enables data and analytics to be a key driver of our business strategy. Working closely to partnership with senior stakeholders and delivery teams all over the world to connect the business processes, data, products, services, and technology that underpin customer value and financial success. At the same time, we’ll work to drive consistency and simplification of our architecture.

If you’re looking for a career that will give you plenty of opportunities to develop, join HSBC and your future will be rich with potential. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

The principal goal of the Data Office is to transform HSBC into a truly data-led organisation and support the delivery and implementation of the Group Data Strategy. It will drive the delivery of the Group Data Strategy across the 3 pillars - Protect our data, Connect to our people, Unlock value for our customers. Starting with clear, unambiguous data definitions and culminating in trusted insight from well managed and controlled data, DAO plays a pivotal role as the data conscience for the Bank.

The responsibilities of the team include setting out, and subsequently holding Global Businesses and Functions accountable to follow a unified Data Strategy. This includes ensuring data is unambiguously defined, that it is controlled and managed to an appropriate level of quality, that Businesses/Functions comply with internal data policies and external data regulations, that data is sourced from appropriate (ideally “trusted”) sources and data sourced is approved for the purpose of the business use case and in accordance to data privacy regulations.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Work closely with Data Utility Office stakeholders and GB/GF Data teams to ensure business requirements are understood, translated and delivered as tooling capabilities
  • Coordinate delivery and dependencies between other Data Management projects and other relevant programs/initiatives
  • Oversight of the data privacy and data approval (‘Data Visas’) requirements for DBS
  • Interfaces with the business, IT partners and DBS colleagues ensuring full understanding of requirements and ability to translate technical and non-technical requirements for the appropriate user group
  • Ensuring compliance with HSBC Group company policies and procedures, including regulatory requirements.
