Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Engineering and Asset Strategy Directorate for a Data Improvement Manager. You will focus on delivering improvements to the quality of asset, project and operational data across TfL by proactively identifying data gaps and quality issues and delivering data improvement projects. You will also develop standards and best practices to ensure that the directorate has accurate data that fully supports effective business planning, operations and capital activities.
Overview of role
- As the Data Improvement Manager you will support the development of the directorate's data strategy through assessing data maturity across the directorate, and developing new standards and best practices
- Identifies data issues and opportunities for data quality improvement and developing options for improvements
- Responsible for improving the quality of asset, project and operational data through developing and maintaining data quality performance measures, scorecards and criticality scores
- Establish and maintain data audit regimes (including standards, metrics and reporting) that support the maintenance and improvement of asset data quality
- Support the development and maintenance of data management standards and activities across the directorate that meet industry best practices and comply with government legislation and guidelines
- Embed standards, processes and best practices to improve data management across the business through training, producing guidance documentation and measuring performance
- Support the development of the data improvement programme by proactively seeking and analysing requirements and opportunities for continuous improvements to the accuracy, completeness and consistency of data across the directorate
- Manage and deliver projects within the data improvement programme through working closely with stakeholders across the business
Skills & Experience
- You will have previous experience of working within a transport/auditing environment with comprehensive experience in developing and implementing standards and best practices for data improvement
- Experience in implementing a data quality plan and putting into practice to achieve objectives set by the Asset Management Information Strategy
- Experience in using tools and methodology for data quality measurement activities
- Experience in asset data and information management in a transport organisation
Key Requirements
- Degree qualification in Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Transport Planning, Engineering, Surveying or similar subjects, or equivalent business experience
- Competent knowledge in defining criteria to maintain and improve good quality asset information and data
- Highly developed knowledge of the processes to analyse factors and causes that affect data quality
- Knowledge of the processes to control data quality so that it reaches the level required.
- Knowledge of monitoring the quality of data to ensure appropriate and good quality.
- Clear understanding of Asset Management Systems, interrogating them and extracting data for supporting business decisions
- Expert knowledge of data criticality assessment methodologies and understanding business data requirements
