Job Description:

As a Cyber Security Analyst, you will be part of a team that protects IT infrastructure (including networks, hardware, and software) from a range of criminal activity.  You will also monitor networks and systems, detect security threats ('events'), analyse, and assess alarms, and report on threats, intrusion attempts and false alarms, either resolving them or escalating them, depending on the severity.

You’ll be processing and analysing cyber threat intelligence information and compiling standard and ad-hoc reports as needed.

Location: Home based with travel, United Kingdom

Security Vetting Requirement - SC Cleared or able to gain SC clearance

What you’ll be doing:

  • Keep up to date with the latest security and technology developments
  • Research/evaluate emerging cyber security threats and ways to manage them
  • Managing, advising, and reporting on customer impacting IT Security Incidents
  • Providing on-going support and assistance conducting Information Security audits
  • Conducting IT security impact assessments of proposed change requests
  • Monitoring and recording compliance with operational security standards and procedures
  • Conducting security control assessments to identify compliance control gaps, work with process owners to determine corrective action plans, and support the integration of a security controls framework
  • Applying defined information risk management methodologies and frameworks to identify and implement controls in support of confidentiality, integrity, and availability
  • Organising and attending client Security forums to support the Information Security Manager in the review of services and discussion around improvement opportunities
  • Maintain an information security risk register and assist with internal and external audits relating to information security
  • Monitor and respond to 'phishing' emails and 'pharming' activity
  • Assist with the creation, maintenance, and delivery of cyber security awareness training for colleagues

What we’re looking for:

  • A passion for cyber security and a keen interest in IT
  • Excellent IT skills, including knowledge of computer networks, operating systems, software, hardware, and security
  • Proven experience in security/infrastructure protection and information security management or a postgraduate/master’s degree in cyber security
  • Experience of vulnerability assessments and patching tools
  • Good risk, governance and compliance understanding
  • Ideally a formal InfoSec accreditation/qualification
  • Experience of applying defined risk management methodologies and frameworks
  • Up to date knowledge of evolving Infosec threats and risk management
  • Working knowledge of modern security technologies such as firewalls, VPN, IDS/IPS, SIEM and endpoint protection
  • An understanding of the cyber security risks associated with various technologies and ways to manage them
  • A good working knowledge of various security technologies such as network and application firewalls, host intrusion prevention and anti-virus
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and assess risks, threats, patterns, and trends
  • Teamworking skills to collaborate with team members and clients
  • Great communication skills, including verbal and presentation skills, with an ability to communicate with a range of technical and non-technical team members and other relevant individuals
  • Written communication skills, for example to write technical reports
  • Time-management and organisational skills to manage a variety of tasks and meet deadlines
  • The ability to multi-task and prioritise your workload
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • An ability to work under pressure, particularly when dealing with threats and at times of high demand
