Job Description

This position utilizes technical problem solving and project management skills to support the planning and execution of equipment operational design, safety design, testing, install, continuing maintenance, and successful start-up of combined lines.  This role is done in concert with the CVS team, engineering team, R&D and plant operations. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Operates in a safe & efficient manner and takes ownership for safety related design considerations – including but not limited to LOTO, working from heights, confined space ingress and egress, machine guarding, and electrical safety.   
  • Effectively evaluates equipment design for maintaining GMPs and QMPs to a high level
  • Leads problem solving activities, from identifying issues to completing thorough analysis to resolution and execution – with a forward thinking mentality to prevent issues from occurring during regular production. Uses standard methodologies for problem solving and deploys across the project / new lines.
  • Significantly contributes and provides technical leadership to PM creation and CMMS system set-ups
  • Ensure PMs are executed on schedule during commissioning phase of projects
  • Evaluates need and helps coordinate appropriate spare parts availability prior to project commissioning
  • Participates in site projects to ensure that safety, reliability, maintainability, and OEE, requirements are delivered.
  • Support stakeholders in identifying and prioritizing changing schedule needs
  • Provides technical suggestions and support to promote lean design and quick changeovers
  • Leadership and support as appropriate for equipment installations into factory including operational design inputs, FAT/VAT testing at vendor location, and SAT qualification on site
  • Application of predictive maintenance technologies and implementation of condition-based monitoring systems on new systems in coordination with engineering team
  • Works in line with project LEED and Mars sustainability goals
  • Able to assess equipment operating reliability and perform routine repairs, adjustments and malfunction troubleshooting.
  • Provide operational and mechanical input during project design phases
  • Provides training to maintenance, operators, and CVS colleagues to ensure effective, safe, and reliable maintenance and operation of equipment
  • Able to operate various computer systems including MS office, HMI interfaces

Context and Scope

  • Effective and engaging training of maintenance associates and contractors during various phases of CVS process, including shift operations as necessary
  • Identify and recommend process improvements/issues affecting safety, quality, efficiency, etc.
  • Use various technical competencies to aid design, commissioning, and think forward toward production needs.  The competencies may include installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting:  AC and DC variable speed and servo controlled pumps, electronic field devices, data and controls devices and wiring (pressure, temp, flow, weight, proximity, laser), basic understanding of PLC programming structures, mechanically timed equipment, hydraulic/pneumatic/electric powered systems and components, close-tolerance equipment, etc.
  • Interpret blueprints, basic machining skills (Mill, Lath, metal fab), welding abilities (MIG/TIG/stick), etc)
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and balance competing influences, to accomplish team goals successfully within the timeline
  • Up to 25% travel required (primarily during VAT periods) as well as ability to work variable schedule requirements that may be necessary in a manufacturing start-up and training environment
  • Support the Mars OS and drive its implementation throughout the plant
  • All other duties, tasks, project work, and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Specifications/Qualifications

1. Education & Professional Qualification

  • Degree in Engineering or related field +2 years of relevant experience OR 5+ years experience with electric control and mechanical systems in complex processes and/or high speed food production environment

2. Knowledge/Experience

  • Resolves most questions and problems, and only escalates the most complex issues
  • Works under minimal supervision.
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Troubleshooting, testing, repairing mechanical and electrical systems, include 480 V 3-phase, Controls devices, close-tolerance mechanical systems, etc.
  • Preferred:  OSHA 30 Hr and other industrial safety training
  • Preferred:  Prior experience training others
