Job Description

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and strategic direction to outside counsel with respect to the handling of assigned caseload of lawsuits, claims, and subpoenas.
  • Support business partners and company witnesses on matters relating to litigation, including witness interviews, document collection, depositions, hearings, and other adversarial proceedings.
  • Represent Conagra Brands in legal, administrative, and regulatory proceedings, as well as in mediations and settlement negotiations.
  • Oversee discovery processes, including e-discovery and legal hold, for assigned caseload; champion the evolution of tools, processes, and services.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for continuous improvement within the litigation group and lead efforts to implement process improvement solutions.
  • Advise business partners on dispute resolution, litigation, insurance, regulatory, and risk management among other matters and identify opportunities to provide training.
  • Ensure appropriate use and deployment of Company assets at all times, including through enforcement of billing guidelines and negotiation of alternative fee arrangements.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with business partners and other members of the litigation team and legal department, as well as external partners.
  • Commit to promoting the development of one’s own legal and business skills, industry knowledge, and to maintaining an inclusive working environment.

Position Qualifications

  • Licensed attorney with minimum of 4 years of litigation experience in a law firm or corporate litigation department.
  • Meaningful exposure to a broad range of litigation matters; relevant experience includes commercial and contract disputes, product liability, personal injury, employment, environmental, insurance coverage, and class action disputes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, think critically, manage complex projects, learn new areas of law, and solve problems.
  • Understanding of e-discovery best practices; hands-on experience with e-discovery software/tools preferred.
  • Must be able to work autonomously in area of responsibility while keeping manager and business partners appropriately informed.
  • High integrity, collaboration skills, and emotional intelligence.
  • Able to manage complex projects within established budgets.
  • Collaboratively influential. Must be able to ensure key legal perspectives are taken into account and alternative actions and outcomes considered, even if unpopular.
  • Professional and effective written and oral communication skills. 
  • Ability to think in business scenarios, evaluate and articulate risk on a cost-benefit basis, and propose creative alternative solutions.
  • Demonstrated curiosity; ability to quickly learn new areas and business considerations; comfortable with change.
  • Committed to personal development and continuous learning.
  • Must have a bias toward action; takes personal initiative to hold self and team accountable for delivering desired results.
  • Must be able to handle company confidential information and data requiring the highest degree of attention to preserve confidentiality.
  • Self-starter with a sense of urgency, ability to multi-task, stay organized; ability to handle unanticipated situations effectively and work well under pressure with tight deadlines.
