AWE Aldermaston covers a site of approximately 750 acres. Once a wartime airfield, today Aldermaston is a centre of excellence, housing advanced research, design and manufacturing facilities.

As a member of Bechtel’s AWE Project team, you will join Bechtel’s Infrastructure global business unit.  Demand for our expertise is growing, building the team as we embark through the project life cycle: from research and development through engineering, procurement, construction and operation. The Lead Cost/Trend Engineer would perform cost estimating, analysis, and control activities. Supports project organizational and administrative activities when delegated. Supervises cost engineering activities when delegated.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Prepares Project Controls plans, and detailed manpower utilization plans for discipline or specialty activities. Monitors cost performance against the plan and prepares trends as necessary. 
  • Assists with contract management and payments.
  • Works closely with Engineering, Construction, Project Controls, et.al. to coordinate required data needed to conform to the overall estimate.
  • Performs or coordinates the performance of pricing structure development and application to takeoffs, derived quantities, quantity assumption, and cost allowances within a discipline or other specialty.
  • Assists in developing specific project codes of accounts and recommends appropriate modifications and revisions. This includes training in the proper use of and definitions for the cost accounts.
  • Assists in developing unit hour and pricing data for a specific discipline or another specialty, including estimating parameters, factors, indices, productivity and craft distribution reference data, etc., based on analysis of Bechtel and industry experience.
  • Performs data analysis, identifies problems, and makes recommendations.

 

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experience in performing, monitoring, and reviewing planning and scheduling functions, which include schedule development, control, and analysis, in the field and the home office.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication.
  • Knowledge in the use of computers for executing work processes.
  • Proficiency in using PC operating systems and several basic software applications such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint. 
  • Proficiency in using multiple discipline-specific software applications currently used by Bechtel (e.g. Primavera, and Microsoft Project).
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction management customarily acquired over time through specialised instruction or practical experience.
  • Knowledge of NEC3 Contract administration.
  • Experience using Contract Administration applications currently in use by Client (e.g. Cemar)
  • Knowledge of current industry and technical developments.
  • Knowledge and experience of the nuclear industry, preferred

 

  • Grade 25:  Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, Construction Management or related field with six years of project controls or cost related work experience. In lieu of Bachelor’s degree 12 years of project controls or cost control experience.
  • Grade 26:  Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, Construction Management or related field with nine years of project controls or cost related work experience. In lieu of Bachelor’s degree 15 years of project controls or cost control experience.

 

Note: The position is open to United Kingdom (UK) Nationals only. UK/US dual citizens may be considered.  Candidate must be able to obtain an SC security clearance.

 

Flexibility in work location includes three days per week working at the project site and two days working from home or the Bechtel office.  This arrangement will change as project needs adjust.
