Job Summary

The Controls Technician supports and leads trouble-shooting controls issues and problems in the Operations area. The position also works on continuous improvement projects through programming and trouble-shooting activities. Also serves as on call support for technical/ systems problems.


 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead troubleshooting of production problems on a timely basis until successful resolution including major and minor maintenance of automated and non-automated equipment

  • Lead/Work on Continuous Improvement projects throughout the plant

  • Valid and keep current the plant Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems

  • Provide technical support on capital projects

  • Supports Failure Investigations in respective areas

  • Recommends, decides and implements actions under daily operation pressure to drive production lines performance

  • Provide on-call after hour support for on-shift Technical Resources

  • Work in conjunction with the Network administrator to maintain the Facility Controls Network (hardware and software)

  • Work closely with Maintenance and Operator Technician teams to assure that they are properly trained in the use of the plant control systems. Work with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and Consultants to solve system related problems

  • Document changes made to software and hardware (electrical and Process & Instrumentation prints)

Education/ Experience

Minimum education and experience requirements:  

  • High School Diploma 

  • 2 year Industrial Technology Certificate or Electrical Electronic Technology degree or equivalent work experience 

  • 2 years’ experience in PLC Field with knowledge of WonderWare Intouch and Archestra (Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, Programmable Logic Controllers)

  • 2 years’ experience in developing and/or changing electrical schematics.

  • Be available to work on different shifts, up to 12 hours/day and 5 to 7 days/week


 

Preferred education and experience requirements: 

  • BS or equivalent Engineering/Engineering Technology in Controls or Electrical discipline. 

  • Ability to design and apply 3 phase 480 VAC circuit

  • Ability to design and apply 120 VAC and 24 VAC control circuit designs and applications

  • Know, understand and interpret NEC regulatory requirements

  • Experience troubleshooting Micromotion Flow meters, Servo Motors and drives 

  • Ability to troubleshoot and commission Variable Frequency AC Drives, 3 phase motor starters, Solenoids, control values, Servo Motors and drives

  • Microsoft Structured Query Language (MSsql) 

  • Industrial Structured Query Language (SQL) 

  • Allen-Bradley Panelview
