This role will be covering projects across the North of England, Midlands, East of England and Wales.
We have a fantastic opportunity to recruit several Project Managers with construction experience working as part of our internal Consultancy team in the North, Midlands & East of England and Wales regions, as we work to deliver projects in a more programmatic and efficient way. National Trust has an ambitious portfolio of projects and the national Grouped Project initiative, where we group projects by theme under one project board, will play a pivotal role in delivering this work. These grouped projects will include several visitor infrastructure and compliance projects that will help improve access to our places and protect our environment.
We protect and care for places so people and nature can thrive. We look after thousands of houses and close to a million objects, along with vast areas of coastline, countryside and green spaces, for everyone’s benefit. With our staff, members, volunteers and supporters, we’re the biggest conversation charity in Europe. Everyone can get involved, everyone can make a difference.
We know that we can't serve our diverse audiences without firstly celebrating the diversity of our people. That's why we work hard to create an inclusive culture where everyone feels a sense of belonging.
Salary £40,564 - £47,000 dependent on experience
We’re bigger than you think, we’re more complicated than we appear and we’re larger scale than you’d imagine. We’ve got passionate people in all our teams and we’ve got so much more we want to achieve. We’re for everyone, forever. The National Trust Consultancy is a multidisciplinary team of experts - a flexible and deployable resource of specialist skills and experience in every field of our work. Our purpose is to deliver the Trust’s Strategy by providing a great service to properties and collaborating across boundaries to make things happen.
Your contractual location will be one of our regional hubs. However, as the role will involve working on projects across the North, Midlands, East of England and Wales, you will be required to work flexibly and should expect to spend a proportion of your working week travelling to and working at Trust properties and occasionally nationwide for project and programme meetings when required. We appreciate this is a large geographical area and you will have autonomy to manage your own time and the amount of travel each week. There will be an opportunity to explore and agree remote working arrangements which strike the right balance for you and the Trust.
We are committed to the personal and professional development of our employees. As well as internally available courses, we also fund externally recognised professional project management qualifications. Currently we have employees completing project management apprenticeships, APM PMQ and PPQ courses with more planned for 2022.

Working within the National Trust’s Project Management Framework, you’ll be managing a suite of construction and compliance projects across a variety of properties. The types of projects you will be working on includes visitor welcome buildings, car park and driveway upgrades, delivery of path and trail networks and sewage system upgrades. As the project progresses through each stage of the project lifecycle your role will be to deliver at pace within funding deadlines, lead engagement with stakeholders and key funding partners, share and apply lessons and work with the Consultancy Manager and Programme Manager to develop the pipeline of future Grouped Projects.
You will benefit from and play an active part in the Trust’s wider project management community - a network of sharing of best practice and mentoring, as well as technical support and development, ensuring that our projects are delivering benefits in line with our national strategy.
You will have a successful track record of delivering construction projects to agreed time, cost and quality standards for projects with a value of between £1m- £5m. A chartered building professional with Project Management qualification or a qualified Project Manager with recent experience of managing complex building projects through the use of mixed discipline design teams would suit this role. Please note, if you do not have a Project Management qualification but are chartered through RICS/CIOB and are prepared to study towards APM PMQ, then we would still like to hear from you.
We will shortlist for interview on the following minimum criteria for the role:
