Position Summary
The Construction Field Engineer works collaboratively to manage safety, quality and progress performance for their assigned contractor. They exercise professional judgement within the framework of broad guidelines provided by superiors.
Typical Responsibilities:
- Ensures a Zero Incident Philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by workers or others in the operational area
- Manages and establishes control of contractors to deliver projects on time, within budget and to the desired quality
- Demonstrates knowledge in engineering principals, practice, and methods and the application of the contract
- Provides technical input as required to ensure work is compliant with project specifications and relevant regulations
- Coordinate technical oversight for assigned scope and work with Engineering and Contractor teams to resolve constructability issues and solve problems
- Reviews inspection and test plans
- Conducts surveillances and inspection of the work, monitors the implementation of the Quality Control Plan and coordinates field sampling and testing for verification of quality results as needed
- Produces daily reports
- Track manhours and work force utilization against budget and schedule
- Reviews contractor invoices
- Ensures post installation documents are completed
- Proactively manage changes through change management process
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Typically requires bachelor’s degree in engineering (or international equivalent) and a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience or 9-11 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
- Effective communication skills and ability to work with various stakeholders.
- Technical knowledge of all phases of construction engineering relating to a single discipline interfacing with all areas, or in a multi-discipline position assigned to a single area.
- Prior experience supervising and administering both prime and subcontractors
- Experience of working in a live operational environment
- Preference given to candidates having experience working with public rail agencies in the NY Tri-state area.
