Job Description

Be part of the Product Development team developing new products and managing existing products for Avery Dennison including, but not limited to, portable and industrial thermal barcode printers, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), wireless solutions, accessories and services.  A component engineer is involved during the research, design, development, compliance, production, and lifecycle management stages of product development and manufacturing.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor, identify and resolve all lifecycle issues and assist various teams to identify appropriate resources and substitutes for components.
  • Analyze and develop solutions to resolve issues associated with obsolete components.
  • Working alongside the Regulatory team, ensure components and assemblies are in compliance with the latest Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS), and maintain the component database to ensure that all regulatory documentation is up to date.
  • Participate in the new product development process, designing subassemblies such as wiring harnesses and board assemblies.
  • Review and interpret component data sheets and evaluate components for being fit for use.
  • Work with the development team to help manage communications with contract manufacturers and component manufacturers and distributors.
  • Utilize ECR/ECN processes and procedures.
  • Document and provide support for all component activities.
  • Identify, lead and track cost savings opportunities in support of cost savings targets.
  • Manage sourcing activity coordination (with Purchasing) and processes for sourcing duties relating to new product development including leading or collaborating with Purchasing for supplier selection, capability assessment, quality improvement, and supplier readiness.
  • Work as the liaison between Engineering and manufacturing engineering to evaluate and resolve component manufacturing issues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ Years engineering, research, scientific or related experience. 
  • Procurement, commodity management, component sourcing, and electronic product development experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with PCBA design assembly processes, material selection, and inspection/testing/validation techniques.
  • Experience with regulatory approvals for EMC and Safety is a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-motivated to initiate and implement tasks, strategies and techniques in a goal-oriented manner to increase productivity and profitability.
  • Ability to work independently and foster a team environment, in a fast-paced environment.
