In light of the escalating humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and the office-wide scale-up, UNICEF Afghanistan is seeking a communication and donor relations specialist to support the Health and the Communication, Advocacy, and Civic Engagement (CACE) sections with public advocacy, content dissemination and communication on the humanitarian situation esp. in health sector facing children in Afghanistan and the results achieved and through these enhancing a positive relationship with the health section’s major donors (including the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank).

The position will be reporting to the Chief of CACE with a secondary reporting line to the Chief of Health.

How can you make a difference?

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Contribution to communication products:

  • Map all UNICEF commitments to various donors (by grants) on communication and visibility and develop plans for addressing these commitments.
  • Support Principal Advisor/ Chief -Health with social media engagement on key projects, donors, and events.
  • Travel between field offices to gather content, and collaborate with CACE and Health colleagues to compile, produce, and disseminate human-interest stories based on donor/report.
  • Draft health donor social media posts and online communication products for dissemination on ACO platforms.
  • Draft/update key messages on UNICEF-supported health programmes.
  • Ensure UNICEF and donor visibility requirements are met by implementing partners and collaborating with CACE to gather relevant donor visibility multimedia products.
  • Ensure timely publication of donor acknowledgment and visibility products and contribute to donor reports, in collaboration with the resource mobilization team.

2. Donor relations:

  • Support the enhancement of positive relationships with current and prospective donors to Afghanistan Country Office Health programmes through timely and accurate reporting and monitoring of donor communication interests and information needs.
  • Work closely with Resource Mobilization colleagues, monitor donor trends, and maintain a database of key engagements on donor intelligence.
  • Provides quality assurance of reports, proposals, and internal and external communication products including the drafting and editing of human-interest stories and donor-related social media posts.
  • Serve as the focal point for health programme donors’ communication in collaboration with the CACE team.
  •  Support donor missions through the preparation of briefing documents and liaising with office administration for any logistical requirement.

SKILLS:

The ideal candidate is a seasoned communication and/or partnerships professional with emergency and external communication experience. Solid English language writing skills. Advanced ability to express clear, concise, and engaging ideas and concepts in written form; specific skills in report writing and editing. Proven ability to effectively manage relationships with donor partners and potential donor groups.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Health, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience in communication, print, broadcast, and/or new media.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergencies is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset
