Job Description

The Commercial Manager will lead the commercial delivery of a projects across the ETS South Portfolio, working closely with the Projects Director they will provide contract commercial management through the full project lifecycle (proposal, negotiation, delivery, close-out), risk and opportunity management with a focus on margin and cash assurance.

They will manage numerous stakeholder relationships, including external relationships with clients, suppliers and wider commercial and operational teams.

Working closely with the Project Director to improve operations and deliver against financial plans

What will you deliver?

  • Manage numerous stakeholder relationships, including external relationships with clients, suppliers and wider commercial and operational teams.
  • Analysing and managing risk including assessing the revenue opportunity vs. cost and risk
  • Managing and securing internal approvals for new opportunities
  • Managing the commercial viability of variations
  • Leading negotiations encompassing multiple disciplines including supplier negotiations and flow-downs
  • Excellent knowledge of contract law and its application in construction and/or EPC contracts
  • Strong understanding and application of contract change management and related contractual mechanics: EoT, delay/disruption, liquidated damages
  • Sound financial acumen (P&L, cashflow, balance sheet) and good understanding of financial modelling, contract pricing and differing project pricing models to optimise cashflow and profitability
  • Dealing reactively in mitigation key risk areas as they arise and providing support to Finance and Operations to resolve in a timely manner
  • Negotiating, on an equitable basis, internally and externally to ensure that the business is not exposed to risk

 Who are we looking for?

  • Commercial experience
  • Educated to degree/ diploma level in either Law, Business, Surveying (Building/Quantity), or the Built Environment (FM, Land).
  • Understanding and practical application of base UK law applicable to Commercial (Construction Act etc).
  • Ideally a member or training to be member of a chartered institution.
  • Strong & confident communicator able to successfully engage and influence at all levels of the organisation, including up to Divisional Management and senior members of Functional Teams
  • Champion to both the business and the Commercial function as a cross-functional leader and internal influencer
  • Confident decision-maker
  • Starter – Finisher: seeing activities through to successful completion whilst creating a platform for engagement & collaboration
  • Resilient and self-motivated
  • The ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and work under pressure
