About the team

The Centre of Excellence for Commercial Finance provides all finance decision support to the business, be that direct support into our Agile Tribes and Squads, or indirect support through the Commercial FP&A team.

 

The Product Tribe Commercial Finance Team are responsible for all decision support to the customer facing products of the business, covering acquisition, growth & retention and future proposition activities. This includes all pricing and proposition evaluation and any analysis that supports the tribes achieve their objectives and key results.

Tesco Mobile is at the start of an agile transformation journey, and this team will need to adapt processes and outputs to support this.

 

About the role

Whilst a member of the Centre of Excellence for Commercial Finance, day to day this role works across the Future Mobile Tribe, providing financial analysis to support future business propositions. The role will suit someone who loves to have autonomy and is a self-starter.

The Future Mobile Tribe is one of three Product Tribes in Tesco Mobile. Future Mobile is all about predicting and meeting customer’s needs, to make sure Tesco Mobile remains the customer focused business it is today.  The successful candidate will join a fascinating cross functional group of people who are passionate about developing and delivering our next customer focused propositions across a broad range of topics. The Future Tribe is split into 3 squads (Tesco Group, Connected Services & Freedom Capability) and this role will allow you to flex your time across them to support the planning and delivery of backlog items. The role also allows you to influence the direction and scope of these propositions by being an active participant in squad conversations.

This role will suit a candidate with outstanding Excel analytical skills and strong financial acumen, who can use this to support other Tribe members and contribute towards achieving objectives and key results.

The successful candidate should also expect to work in the fluid ways that an agile organisation allows, supporting BAU but also shifting focus over time to the areas within the tribe that need the most financial support. The main focus will be the Future Tribe, but there may be a need to butterfly into other squads and tribes as business priorities require.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide world class financial stewardship so that the business can make informed decisions by:
    • preparing and sharing financial analysis and insight.
    • supporting squads with development of propositions.  
  • Support the Commercial FP&A team to construct and review forecasting and budgeting based on in-depth 
  • knowledge of the area.
  • Drive improvement and efficiencies in ways of working, through better processes, modeling and utilising data in
  • a more effective way.
  • Support Product backlog management, with Product Owners and squad members.
  • Attend the relevant ceremonies for the Future Tribe and supporting squads.
    • Be an active participant in the continues improvement and agility maturity of the squad & tribe.
    • Attend relevant Obeya ceremonies.
  • You will contribute to the overall output of the tribe, and this will vary depending on your squads requirement.
  • As required support other areas of Commercial Finance. 

 

What We Need from You:

Essential Skills:

  • Qualified accountant with signigficant experience working in a commercial finance/FP&A environment.
  • Track record of ownership of process and deliverables.
  • Experience of building and maintaining positive relationships across Finance and the wider business.
  • Ability to move quickly between maintaining accuracy in the detail and providing an impactful high level overview.
  • Fluent use of Excel and systems.
  • Strong financial modelling skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams to deliver on a common goal.
  • Understanding of the mobile business including knowledge of key competitor trends and threats to mobile business.
  • Embody an Agile mindset and culture to contribute to the growth in agile maturity of our business.
  • Inspect and adapt their way of working for continuous improvement.
