Job Description

The Cloud System Architect provides architectural leadership for Cloud DevOps Product Teams on an Agile Release Train, ensuring that the solutions within the train fit within the overall Enterprise Architecture Principles, Standards, and Guidelines for Cloud-deployed applications.  In collaboration with other architects, engineers, and developers this role will advocate for common development practices, standards, and architecture across products and applications within the train.  This role will help define DevSecOps architecture and oversight, development, testing, and CI/CD pipelines for a Software Factory team to deliver software. This role will participate with Enterprise Architects and other System Architects in developing and implementing a practical architecture by working with and mentoring domain architects and developers as needed.

What you will do:

Architecture Leadership

  • Help define, shape and communicate Enterprise Application Architecture standards across the Agile Release Train that align with Enterprise Architecture and the broader Gordon Food Service enterprise
  • Collaborates and participates in the development of enterprise architecture standards that are in support of EA Guiding Principles
  • Communicates and provides oversight of Cloud and Application Architecture standards across the Agile Release Train and the broader Gordon Food Service enterprise.
  • Collaborates with Domain Architects and other System Architects to create the Enabling Features to address Architectural Runway needed by Product Teams and based on Architectural Standards and Goals.
  • Promotes continuous improvement of an Agile Architecture through incremental change.
  • Be a steward of the “automate and codify everything” mindset of the Software Factory pipelines, including infrastructure and database(s) 
  • Participates with Enterprise Architecture in the development of Enterprise Architecture Standards.

Agile Release Train Architect

  • Participate in Program Increment (PI) Planning and Pre- and Post-PI Planning, System Demos, and Inspect and Adapt events.
  • Provides Architectural Leadership to the Cloud System/Software Factory Teams to plan, develop and maintain the Architectural Runway in support of new and existing Business Features and Capabilities.
  • Participate in Vendor Software selection processes as needed to ensure Packages and Cloud solutions fit within the overall Enterprise Architecture.
  • Support technology/engineering aspects of Program and Solution Kanbans.
  • Provide oversight and foster Built-In Quality, Testing, and Technical Agility.
  • Work directly with Agile teams to implement Technical Enablers as needed.
  • Facilitates cross team discussions to set goals and remove roadblocks for application design or implementation.
  • Facilitates infrastructure engineering reviews that enable teams to select and deliver applications.
  • Documents and publishes architecture design and analysis work as needed.

DevSecOps 

  • Promote continuous improvement of the Product delivery process through Lean Agile thinking and automation.
  • Be part of a DevSecOps transformational leadership team
  • Promote an automated testing strategy with Developers to help enable a CI/CD pipeline.
  • Ensure Security concerns are identified early in the  Product life cycle.
  • Identify which system(s) have responsibility for functionality and reduce redundancy.
  • Help streamline data definition needs and standards including deployment processes, for applications.
  • Help define standard integrations for systems as needed using modern API platform and integration technologies. 

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related field required.
  • Six years of previous information technology experience.
  • Familiar with cloud application architecture design principles; such as cloud native design.
  • Understanding of the enterprise architecture discipline, processes, concepts and best practices.
  • Strong understanding of software craftsmanship principles such as TDD/BDD, paired programming, clean code, etc.
  • Proven leadership, influence, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
  • Capability to deliver complex architecture designs and solutions and can participate in their implementation.
  • Adaptability in responding to competing demands and attaining ever evolving architecture.
  • Capability to foster a DevSecOps culture within product development and delivery.
