Bechtel is on the Northrop Grumman Corp. team preparing to deliver the U.S. Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) system of inter-continental ballistic missiles and launch infrastructure. GBSD is a vital U.S. Air Force program designed to modernize the nation’s aging force of inter-continental ballistic missiles, which make up the ground element of the nuclear deterrent. As part of the Northrop Grumman GBSD nationwide team, Bechtel will provide launch system design, construction, and integration.

 Position Summary

This position is for a Civil, Structural and Architectural (CSA) Engineering Group Supervisor, who will lead the CSA team to prepare designs associated with DOD and USAF projects. This role is responsible for the design delivery and supporting team management for the Bechtel work products and designs, as well as for coordinating the scope and integration of work with internal and external stakeholders.

The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.  This role will specifically support the USAF Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase.

 

Responsibilities

This role applies broad and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to project engineering. Makes decisions independently concerning problems within the discipline on the project. Represents the discipline on the project and with the client to resolve technical questions and as required to coordinate work. The successful candidate will support engineering design development engineering for the GBSD program project by preparing studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. 

This position scope will be responsible for supervising engineers and helping to execute assignments concerned with specialized unique engineering requirements in a global business unit. This position has technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, and coordinating these assignments. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope, and may involve development of novel concepts, approaches, and solutions.

 

Coordination of engineering activities including supervision of engineers/designers of all disciplines within the CSA team

Responsible for all design deliverables for the CSA team, including content, budget, schedule, and quality

Development of formal calculations and drawings

Development of subcontractor scopes of work for execution of construction work implementing design documents.

Review vendor information from subcontractors

Execute to schedule requirement while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product

Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team, such as geotechnical engineering and GIS.

Manage discipline work process execution and assure technical adequacy in accordance with company procedures, contract, and industry codes and standards. 

Demonstrate ownership of assigned actions to self and group and shows initiative in problem solving.

Build an inclusive team environment where all are able and expected to contribute to the maximum of their capabilities.

Provide leadership and mentoring to team members. Create meaningful goals working with team and ensure goals are met.

Interface with the ultimate USAF client/customer for Northrop Grumman for technical issue studies, resolutions, and recommendations 

Accountable for error-free deliverables.

Perform formal calculations and drawings

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

BS degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, or related), from an accredited university, with 13 years of relevant experience or in lieu of a degree 19 years of relevant professional experience.

US citizenship is required per contract requirement.

Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Registered Professional Engineer in USA (Civil or Structural Engineering).

Prior management supervision of a team greater than 10 people

Experience planning and executing work in an Earned Value Management System environment

Experience with project controls including scheduling, estimating engineering efforts, planning, and work packaging.

Broad knowledge of the application of engineering design principles.

Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods.

Experience with Building Information Modeling and information automation

Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).

Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved.

Knowledge of industry /regulatory codes and standards, and design and/or layout criteria pertinent to the discipline.

Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, materials, and computers in the discipline

Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense

 

 Preferred Qualifications

Active DOD clearance

Prior construction oversight experience

Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000.

Experience with procurement automation tools

Experience with use or knowledge of Revit and/or InRoads

Intermediate knowledge of developing CSI Masterformat specifications, or SpecsIntact

Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide

Experience in complex excavation approaches and construction execution, field experience is preferred.

Knowledge of Bechtel Corporate guides and standards
